I'm easily distracted by shiny things, so it's no surprise that a silver mercury glass vase caught my eye recently at my favorite local Goodwill store. This sucker was HUGE. I was a bit perplexed, however, since it was in the lamps section.
Duh. That's because it WAS a lamp! At first glance I really thought it was a vase or some kind of hurricane lamp (for candles). But the cord and bulb socket were a dead giveaway:)
The $2.99 price tag sealed the deal, but I really must have been out of it that day because it wasn't until I got home that I noticed this:
Yes, it says Pottery Barn! That's when I did my little happy dance and was so excited I even got the attention of my kids (which isn't easy in a house full of teens, if you know what I'm saying). They thought I was nuts, but they at least acknowledged that I had snagged a great deal.
From what I can tell Pottery Barn no longer sells this item, but when they did it was $124.95. Crazy, of course. I found a used one on eBay for $49.99 and another one on some knock-off website for $69.00 (but it was sold out). So in thrifting parlance, "I done good!"
I love how my DIY Farmhouse Wood Bead Garland looks draped over it right now. What do you think? I also love the base of it. You can't tell very clearly from the pictures, but the base has a faux vintage patina effect going on and I'm loving that about it, too!
So, you may have noticed the two vintage-inspire tobacco baskets I've used as part of the vignette....never thought I'd be able to say that I HAVE tobacco baskets, so I'm pretty thrilled about it. Soon I'll be sharing with you just how I was able to purchase them for a really reasonable price. So stay tuned for that! (And the same goes for those mini faux olive buckets, too!)
And even if you're not impressed by the Pottery Barn label, you gotta admit that I got a good deal on a beautiful mercury glass lamp!
Well, that's it until next time, friends!

Great find Kathleen! I love mercury glass anything, and that lamp is lovely.
Your lucky day! Wow, that was an incredible find! I'm a fan of mercury glass, but don't see it much around here. Love your baskets too.
