Welcome, friends, to another fun-filled Thrill of the Hunt post where I share my latest thrifty (and usually) vintage finds with you.
My hope is that by sharing my thrifty finds I can motivate and inspire you to explore your own local thrift stores, estate sales, flea markets and barn sales and make your own fabulous finds for yourself. So let's get started.
Every once in a while the thrifting gods look down upon me and I stumble across a great sale. In this case, it was a barn sale that my daughter drove by and, knowing me as she does, she called me ASAP to let me know about it. To say that I was there rather quickly would be an understatement. I always love barn sales because you never really know what you're going to find.
Case in point: one vintage pink pottery deer planter. I have to say that it looked cuter before I brought it home than it does in these pictures.
Kinda creepy? Kinda cute? You decide.
It was nice to be able to just drop a small faux succulent into it.
Its pink color reminded me of some pink McCoy pottery I've collected over the years but I think it's an unmarked Haeger pottery piece. It's perfect for anyone looking for midcentury modern retro kitsch decor. Pink deer planter is SOLD.
Say hello to Barbie and Ken. Remember Barbie and Ken dolls? I played with them as a girl, but little did I know there was a whole other world of kitsch going on behind the scenes.
These are vintage 1994 "Barbie with Love" Barbie and Ken salt and pepper shakers. Yeah, I know. I paid $6.00 for them, which was probably too much but at the time I knew that they were collectible so I took a chance. I've seen them on etsy and ebay offered for as much as $25.00 and as little as $5.00.
(This is so weird, isn't it?.) But I'm thinking they'll at least make an interesting addition to my vintage salt and pepper shaker collection.
My next vintage find is much more mainstream. I've started collecting vintage Avon perfume bottles and containers. Some of them are really quite lovely.
Case in point: this vintage 1970's Avon Bird of Paradise cream sachet. I apologize for the small size of some of my photos, but when I enlarge them I lose all quality. Due to the dining/living room renovation all my breakables are packed away so I can't retake their photos right now. But I didn't want that to keep me from posting about these finds.
I picked this up for $3.99.
Last but not least is this little porcelain terrier with an orange bow tie, hugging an old yellow bucket.
At first I thought it was just a cute figurine but then I realized that it's a toothpick holder! Yes, that's a thing.
For that matter it can also be a match holder.
On the back it says "Made in China." I believe it's from the 1940's.
Well, that's it until next time, friends!
I hope you enjoyed reading

Yep, that deer is creepy, yet I would love to have it! I would probably stick a succulent in it, too. And, the Avon jar ornament isn't too shabby, either. I think you did well with your purchases.
I loved the terrier! An air fern would probably survive in your son's collection?!? Would the deer look less creepy if you painted eyes on it? Do the whites, then a dark brown filling almost all of the eye opening with a glare dot off to one side? Lash line? You can always wipe it off if you don't like it! My 60's Barbie had a very similar bubble cut; I had to smile! The old Avon scents remind me of old ladies at church when I was a kid!
Barn sales are SO fun! The Ken & Barbie shakers are funny. Love the terrier best!
I love all your finds especially Barbie and Ken. My daughter started a salt and pepper shaker collection and I'm going to tell her to be on the lookout for these guys. The terrier planter is cute too.
I don't think the deer is creepy. Love the terrier planter. Barbie & Ken do look like themselves so that's a plus.
Interesting finds. 😊 I actually think the deer is kind of cute. Ken and Barbie salt shakers...who knew? (I actually find them creepy). The Avon bottle is pretty but I adore the terrier! He's so cute!
