Hello! I hope you all had a great weekend and are ready for another Club G.W.! I'm going to start off by sharing my Features from Club G.W. No. 3.
She does the most amazing things with found treasures of all kinds.Can you believe this gorgeous necklace was made from vintage sewing machine parts?
Cloche envy, anyone? She made this from scratch! (And I'd like
some of those chocolates, too!)

Now, on to some serious business ~ I finally found it ! The Holy
Grail of found furniture (at least for me)! But you have to help me out
because I'm paralyzed with fear as to what I'm going to do
with her.
I present my biggest "Pitter-patter" thus far:
Is she beautiful, or what?
I was so excited to find her at good old Mr. Thrifty I almost
couldn't believe she was right there in front of me. The good ones
always seem to be spoken for, you know? Anyway, I knew I had to
have her but, alas, she's got a few problems. Nothing that can't be
remedied, I'm sure, but novice that I am I just don't know where to
start!
The detail is amazing.
I'm not sure if you can tell but there's quite a bit going on here.
The top is almost laminate-like (is that even a word?), while there's also
gold paint on the ridges going around the top of the table and yellow
paint everywhere else! Then there's the real damage.
There are also some "slivers" of wood that
are loose.
You can see it here where I've pulled it up a bit with my finger.
What am I supposed to do with this? Do I glue it back down where
possible? Do I "strip" the whole thing of it's original paint, and if
so, HOW? Part of me just wants to leave it "as is."
I mean, look at the detail. I love this "crown."
And here the paint is literally falling off the legs.
What would you do? I would love to hear what you
think.

That piece definitely has some nice details. What a fun project!
ReplyDeleteI would say to glue down the loose pieces. Not being able to see it in person makes suggestions a little tricky. If you can pull off the paint with your fingers, you will probably have to either leave it as is, give it a good sanding (leaving traces of the paint), or remove the paint entirely and repaint it.

I love your chippy table! Wow, great find.
I would glue down what is loose or pull it off.... sand it. Paint it, glaze it and wax it.The imperfections will still be there but in a more charming way!
No small task I am sure. The bones are awesome though and you are so talented with paint projects -- as we all know!
Whatever you do, it will be a "crowned" jewel when you are done with this one, Kathy!

Wow! That table sure has some great bones, but you're right, it sure has a lot going on. Would that top chip or sand off. Almost looks like it can be peeled off. You'll some up with something wonderful!!

That is a fun piece to be working on- it has such great potential! If the loose pieces aren't too split and jagged, you can use wood glue and clamp them down. Fill in any areas that are missing the laminate with wood putty and sand off that area. If you were to use chalk paint on the entire thing, you don't have to prime or do any more sanding. :-) Love that time-saver! That "crown" part of the table is a very sweet accent.

That is a fab find indeed. This probably breaks all rules of something but I'd sand what I could, go for an aged paint finish ( crackling it would be good) so it doesn't have to be perfect and you can hide flaws, and if there are any places where you can't sand or glue down parts that are peeling away, I'd tear up some fabulous paper and Mod Podge it over those spots.

Oh my gosh ~ I wouldn't change a thing, that table is GoRGeOUs!! I asked my husband (even showed him your photos) and he suggested using wood glue and then either clamping the veneer down or using a weight to hold it down in place until is seals. I would recommend using a sparing amount of glue to avoid over flow, then once it's in place gently sanding the edges to blend the piece in. Then you may want to cover everything with a coat of wax or matte polyurethane to preserve the look.
