Many of you have shared such beautiful summer mantels, vignettes, displays, etc., most of them involving some sort of shells, starfish and/or coral. My hope is to have something similar to show you soon, but until I find my really cleverly hidden stash of awesome shells (I know, I know) I'll just have to share a post from the past that gives you a glimpse of what's to come.
Shell-wise, I mean.
Re-Run of my May 25, 2011 post:
A while back I purchased these two -- not really sure WHAT to call them -- (um, maybe we'll call them orbs) ok, then, orbs -- at Club G.W. for $6.00. It might have been $4.00, who knows, all I can say is that I knew I had to have them. What the heck would I do with them? Well, that would be decided later.....
I guess I was initially thinking candle holders. Pretty traditional, I know.
But the downright bleh brown color, though, had to go! So out came the blue painter's tape.
Then some primer.
And an old can of creamy white paint left behind by our home's prior owners.
Speaking of old paint, does anyone know if there's a figurative DO NOT USE BY date on these things?
I know there's not a literal date, I was just wondering what your experience has been with paint longevity........
I know there's not a literal date, I was just wondering what your experience has been with paint longevity........
So after priming, two coats of paint and a little distressing with sandpaper, voila.
Shells seemed the way to go, what with summer rapidly approaching. I think we could all use a breezy, beachy look in our homes come summer, no matter where we live.
So let's recap.
Before.
After.
Just looking at them makes me smile.
Who knows what I'll fill them with next? Any suggestions?

Much better! I have wondered about the date on paint also, as I have some that has been around for years.
I like coastal design so of course I love these.
Wow Kathleen! What a wonderful makeover!! They look much better in white! I have some stuff like this that I need to update! Thanks for the inspiration!!
Blessings,
Becky
Fantastic Kathleen, the new color looks so much better with the shells....nice!
Kathleen I like how they turned out and the beachy scheme works perfect!
Kathleen, these are wonderful now! I'm so happy you found your shells! They're a perfect fit! Painting a piece always amazes me- such a transformation! I asked my painter about this last week and he told me as long as paint doesn't freeze; it's usually okay. He said you could smell and see it if the paint was bad. I store mine in the garage, so I have to be careful.
They make me smile too. Isn't it amazing what a coat of paint will do? So fresh and fun!!
Bonjour Kathleen,
These look great. Thanks for stopping by for the giveaway - good luck!
Good week to you!

Hi Kathy, The best part of glass is that you can change things up in a snap. Pinecones or acorns in Autumn, ornaments or snowflakes in winter. Any collection that will fit would look great. Another great makeover! Love, penny
Hello I am following now! I absolutely love the transformation a little white paint makes. Never ceases to amaze me. I love this Pottery Barn/Shabby Chic look of the sea shells in the candle holders. Wonderful! Hope you'll stop by and visit my blog sometime when you're blog hopping!
