Pottery Barn Lucas Reclaimed Wood Bath Ladder Storage
The "bath salts" are actually Epsom Salts which I already had.
I fell in love with this the first time I saw it. But at $279 I just had to find another way to get the look for less. And I did!
It all started one day a few months ago as I watched my husband repairing the kids' wooden swing set. It was old and unstable, so he was replacing a few things, including the monkey bars. Yes, monkey bars. They were perfectly aged and just rustic enough. He discarded them by the woodpile in the back yard and didn't give it another thought. But I did. So when I later asked him to bring it into the house he looked at me like "What the...?" Despite his reaction he was a doll and carried it inside and upstairs to our master bathroom.
I picked up a black wire bin at Goodwill for $1.99 and tied it onto one of the rungs with jute. I filled it with towels and a jar of bath salts with a cute little silver scoop.
The "bath salts" are actually Epsom Salts which I already had.
I also added a vintage feed sack from Brick Oven Bakers, Inc. in Port Chester, N.Y. to function as a rustic-looking towel.
And if you're wondering why I placed it IN the tub, well, just take a look at said eyesore tub. It's a huge, green whirlpool tub that we've NEVER used. I've always complained that it was nothing more than a dust-collecting eyesore and that I just wanted to rip it out. Well, since THAT ain't gonna happen, I'll take what I can get. In this case, at least I have something nice to look at that distracts me from all that dust.
I may still play around and eventually add another wire basket. But I'm really happy with how my idea turned out for now. If you're interested in other ideas for ladders, just visit Ashbee Designs' blog and take a look.

Oh, this looks great! I actually like your ladder better than the PB one ... and your price is so much better too! Nice job!!
ReplyDeleteLove your ladder. I would love to have a big ladder somewhere in my house, but alas, there is no space.
ReplyDeleteGreat job and love the price !
ReplyDeleteI have heard some others say, they would like to get rid of a whirlpool tub.
Enjoy your weekend.
This is beyond amazing!
ReplyDeleteYou are so clever,
ReplyDeleteKathleen!! And I
think you could
actually put the
ladder up on the
ledge behind the
tub, if you want
to use it {or have
it look like you do,
for prospective
buyers?}. Love
the grain sack
"towel," too!

You've got some great stuff on that ladder vignette! I've seen people put planks over their tub and turn it into a big settee of sorts :) Pillows and all... just an idea.
ReplyDeleteNew fan here from Cowgirl Up. I really love this! I also would LOVE for you to come share at my weekly Farm Girl Blog Fest: http://fresh-eggs-daily.blogspot.com/2012/10/farm-girl-blog-fest-6.html Hope to see you soon! Lisa/Fresh Eggs Daily
ReplyDeleteMonkey bars? Who knew?! Great repurpose into a ladder diatraction. I've got mine hiding cracks in the plaster walls!
ReplyDeleteI love it! It's absolutely the perfect use for something that was literally in the trash! Nice job!!
ReplyDeleteI too had one of those "dust collecting" tubs, what a waste of space. Our builder looked at us kinda strange when we told him NO TUB in the master shower this time. I haven't regretted it!

Hi Kathy, Such a great idea, and thrifty! The tub I would use! We have a power blue tub, UGLY and impossible to clean, so I feel your pain, but a whirlpool? Use it...by candlelight and the color won't matter. Hope all of your family is safe after sandy. Love, Penny
ReplyDeleteI love that ladder with the basket and towels. Oh my, you are the queen of the knock offs!!

I love how you used this ladder, Kathleen! It looks like you've really put it to work for you. It really holds quite a bit; functional and pretty!
ReplyDeleteOh my God, you're a genius. I've been trying to figure out where to put towels in my bathroom, and it wasn't until I read your article that I realized I was putting hooks on the wall the wrong way. I'm going to make one this week just your way, thanks for sharing.
