French Lampshade Thrift Store Find

May 25, 2013

Have you ever had one of those days when you actually heard the thrift store calling you?  I had one of those days recently and boy was I glad I did!  I really wasn't expecting to find anything special but I stumbled upon this.

Okay, so if you know me at all you know I love nothing better than an amazing thrift store steal.  Unless, of course, it's been French-i-fied.  Bingo on both counts.

$5.99.  I'll say it again. $5.99.  Score!

Love how it looks on my Wal-Mart revamped lamp.

My pictures really don't do it justice, but I'm hoping you can at least see the blue/brown color combo that's just to die for.  Not to mention the whole French grain sack script thing going on.

There were actually two of them and I snagged them both right up, feeling rather giddy if I do say so myself.  Now I'm no French scholar or anything (6 years of study way back when) but I'd have to say that the writing on the shade doesn't really say anything.  Strike that.  I meant to say that it just doesn't say anything that makes sense! If anyone out there can shed some light on it, please leave a comment!

Either way, I'm not upset over what it says or doesn't say.  I'm happy about how it looks!

To all you U.S. readers, happy Memorial Day weekend!  We're spending it at the lake.  Today it's chilly temps and overcast skies.  But hey, it's still the lake!

What are you doing this weekend?

xoxo

Kathleen, I say this is "good clean living"! Wow, what a score! I love your shades! I rarely find the items you find at a thrift store. Ours are far too expensive! I love this vignette!

I do like the shade a lot! If you find out what it says let us know.
I have a piece similar to the one you have hanging on the wall, but the space I wanted to hang it is to narrow, so need to rethink.
Hope you enjoyed your weekend. We were on a lake also - weather cooperated, but mosquitoes were really bad.

Wow! At first I thought you were writing about just the shade and you were showing us what you did to it. What a score to find two of them all prettied up. Not sure what it says either, but you could Google a French to English translation.
