Need a great appetizer to bring over to your neighbor's on Halloween night?
It's not too late to pull together this fabulously tasty haunted Halloween
ham bread recipe. It's loved by both parents and kids alike, and it's sure
to wow them in both appearance and taste!
My husband made this haunted Halloween ham bread this past weekend for
a Halloween party and, as always, it got plenty of oohs and aaahs!
He mastered the recipe while working in a bakery on the Jersey shore as
a kid. Not surprisingly, he said it always "sold out."
{Spookiness, however, is original.}
HAUNTED HALLOWEEN HAM BREAD RECIPE
INGREDIENTS
1 to 1.5 lb. dough ball (from freezer, bread machine or pizza
shop)
1/2-3/4 lb. thinly sliced polish ham
1/2 lb. thinly
sliced american cheese
1/4 - 1/2 lb. each thinly sliced
Genoa and hard salami
1/4 lb. cheddar slices (or shredded cheddar)
Olive Oil
Olive Oil
Italian seasoning
[Optional - pepperoni slices, Sirachi sauce, jalapeno peppers for
spooky factor]
Allow dough to rise as if making bread. On floured surface,
roll out to approximately 18" by
12".
Place meats and cheese in the middle,
leaving enough dough free of toppings so you can fold in the ends and
sides to seal shut.
Cover the middle well - think putting
pepperoni all over a
pizza, but not the crust.
All ingredients should be thinly
sliced, so sharp edges don't
pierce the dough.
Fold sides in, pinch together, using wet fingertips if
needed to seal the seam shut. Fold ends up and over. Pinch seams
tight.
Coat lightly with olive oil, flip over so seams are down on your jelly
roll pan, coat the top with olive oil.
Sprinkle
Italian seasonings or oregano
lightly on top, add jalapenos (eyes, mouth) or Sirachi sauce (stitches,
lips) to decorate. Lightly cut surface in a few places to allow air to
escape when baking. Let finished product rest for 30 minutes (if you have the time) - or
not - then place in 425 degree oven until gold brown,
crispy and bubbling.
Let cool 5-10 minutes, cut crossways into slices and enjoy. NOTE: This thing feeds a ton of people, it's huge!
Those vultures!
Beware, it doesn't last long! Mwaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!
