Some of you might recall this beautiful
vintage birdcage
I scored during my Michigan's Longest Garage Sale adventure this past
summer. I innocently asked you whether or not I
should paint it and the resounding answer was no! So I've left it
alone for now, but I can't promise anything, especially once spring rolls
around.
There are so many things you can do with birdcages from a decor standpoint.
I want to share some great birdcage decorating ideas with you, but
first I want to share how I recently used my own birdcage. I managed
to clean it up and use it for Christmas decorating this year.
Chickadee number one inspired me to fill it with ornaments for a simple, yet
festive, look.
I ended up with a ton of red ornaments from Goodwill after a
post-Christmas score last year, and I was happy to have them this year to
fill the new bird cage. I used every one!
I added a pre-made burlap ribbon to the top of the cage.
I thought it worked well in my foyer vignette, but what I really want to
see is a sparkling chandelier hanging from the inside of it.
Vintage Bird Cage Chandelier Extra Large
Now I've seen other so-called "bird cage chandeliers" come up when you
google the term, but they're mostly just bird cages with a traditional
light fixture inside of it. Nope, not what I'm looking for. I'm talking the real deal, folks. A dripping-with-crystals true-blue chandelier like the one from
Restoration Hardware.
I've actually seen some small crystal chandys sold by Ikea and Hobby
Lobby, so I'm pretty confident that if I don't find one in my thrifty
travels first, I can pick one up there for a reasonable price when I'm
ready to add one to my own bird cage. Stayed tuned for that
transformation.
Since there are probably a million ways to incorporate bird cages
into your everyday décor, I've taken the liberty of choosing
just a few examples that I love and think are doable for just about
anyone.

I've been known to do this myself -- place bird cages on top of books
and fill them with natural elements.

A Well Dressed Home
I've even been known to place vintage books inside some of my bird
cages, although I can't say that I have a bird cage that's anywhere near
as impressive as this one! Don't you just love it?
There are many ways to use them outside as well. I love how they're used for this casual farmhouse dinner.
And flowers are always a welcome addition.
Candles are yet another simple, yet romantic idea, too. Just watch out if
it's made of wood!
Well, that's it until next time, friends!
I hope you enjoyed reading about

ReplyDeleteWhat lovely post, Kathleen! I love your birdcage in the Spring and Christmas vignettes! I love your idea of adding a chandy too! I have my fingers crossed you will find one very soon. Thank you for sharing the gorgeous images- lots of inspiring ideas!

ReplyDeleteLove what you did with your cage. Thanks for all the inspiration. I have two old cages and need a different look.
ReplyDeleteI love birdcages too, and have at least 4 that I can think of right now.....they are just a fun accessory, I think....liked some of these ideas for things to put inside.Never thought of candles or books. That Crystal chandelier inside that bird cage was breathtakingly beautiful. What a clever idea..........
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing these great ideas,
Blessings for a Beautiful New Year,
Nellie
I would be the one with the candles inside. Love birdcages. Love candles.
ReplyDeleteLove all these images, Kathleen! I have one that I spray painted Heirloom White several years ago. I'm starting to think I should have left it alone. Love that one you got. I need to get some good ideas for what to put in mine. It's kind of big and I have it sitting on a pedestal in our sunroom.
ReplyDeleteI never pass up a birdcage! I love the one with ornaments and the idea of making it into a chandelier....I can't wit to see that!!

Beautiful uses of birdcages. I don't own one, but now I'll be on the lookout for one when I'm thrifting! Really like the one filled with books.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing your Room Décor. I can see from the first picture, the green color is being the best option. Although the green is not the main color, I still can see that it is becoming the great combination. Meanwhile, if I do not like to have bright color, I can choose calm color such as white. As I know that white color is great color, because it will suit with other color. Also for the furniture, I can use corner cabinet. But I have to make sure that the material is good. bathroom design
ReplyDeleteLove, love a bird cage!

ReplyDeleteOh I just love the first image! I think I will steal this idea for next Christmas.
ReplyDeleteLove the birdcages and how fabulous they can be in decor. Great post.
ReplyDeleteYou also mentioned on my blog that you were looking for fabulous wood lamps like I pictured, I found some online at Kirklands for $39.95 each. They are also exactly like the pic and so much like what I have seen at Restoration. Take a look.
Hugs, Marty
Each idea is prettier than
ReplyDeletethe next! And honestly, I
would rather see anything
in a cage except a bird!
Probably because I had
parakeets as a girl and it
makes me sad in retrospect
to think that these little
creatures spent eight years
living in that little cage,
rather than flying free....
