French Furniture Love

January 20, 2014

If you're a follower, then you know about my love affair with all things French, including chaise longues.

And as far as I'm concerned, it's all about the chairs, girls.

Take a look at this.

I mean, what's not to love?

A while back I wrote about my love affair with this gorgeously Frenchified chaise longue here.  But back then, little did I know about the rich history that stands behind the object of my affection. I mean, it's French, right?  What more did I need to know?

Well, I learned quite a bit once after conducting a little bit of research.  Apparently, the chaise longue has been around since the ancient Egyptians. It went on to be used in ancient Greece and Rome, and later in France under Louis XIV.  Not surprisingly, it's history suggests that the chaise longue evolved into a luxurious piece of furniture on which to recline and while away the hours.

I may not be a French royal, but I will admit to having napped on my luxurious chaise longue once or twice.  A decadent indulgence in an otherwise hectic day.  I highly recommend it.

Mine sits in the family room, but it's probably more commonly found in bedrooms. I absolutely love the natural color and overall burlap look of mine, as well as the nailhead trim along the sides.  Oh, and the turned legs.  And the tufting!  I guess I love pretty much everything about my chaise longue.

Do you have a statement chair in your home?  More importantly, do you know it's history?

Well, thanks for stopping by and indulging me in my Frenchy furniture love!

This is so pretty! I love the way you have it styled! I love Georgian furniture and tend to gravitate toward Georgian chairs. I guess it's because our home is Georgian. Thanks for sharing this info.; I had no idea they had this.

Your lounger is really attractive. Love the shape and fabric. I was approached by OKL too but never followed through with them. The info they are providing is great. It's really interesting to learn about the history of furniture.

I never thought about the history before but now that I think about it, the movies do always see Cleopatra relaxing on a chaise lounge or the Romans laying on them being fed grapes. heehee. I adore not on the style but the tufting and and fabric on yours. Details like the nailhead trim are sure signs of quality. Enjoy feeling like a queen when you on it Kathleen.

Dear Friend, Love your chaise, and the pillows. Just beautiful. Unfortunately, I have a statement piece in my living room, it's called Lazyboy, a huge recliner. Not very pretty but my guy so deserves to put his feet up at the end of the day. Stay warm. Love, Penny
