I have to be honest right off the bat and say that I've never even eaten an artichoke.
Not to mention the fact that I think the word artichoke is one pretty weird word.
That being said, I DO like how artichokes look when used for home décor and entertaining.
So much so that I recently created a Pinterest board dedicated to artichoke decorating! But rather than make you go over there to see my pins (although you're always welcome!) I thought I'd share a few of them right here.
This one is a classic example of fresh artichokes used in place of flowers for a table centerpiece.
{I'm not sure how long they last in water, though. Anyone have any experience with this?}

I've wanted to get one of these drink dispensers for a long time.

I think the artichoke is a fabulous table decoration, especially in the fall. I've always wanted to use them on Thanksgiving. Here they're used in a simple, but pretty, table setting.

Below is one more example of a way to use artichokes at each place setting. You could even stick a place card into each one for a more personal touch. I also think they'd look fabulous running all the way down the center of the table, each one filled with flowers! Or maybe tea lights. Hhmm, I think I'm onto something.....it appears that the possibilities are endless!

The idea for this post came about after I scored a white porcelain pitcher from
Goodwill for $2.99. Here she is.

Isn't she lovely?
Here she is up close. Just a few small worn spots. But that's how I like them, chippy and loved!
It says "Made in Italy" on the bottom, which I think just adds to its value.

In addition to the pitcher I already had some silk artichokes displayed in my repurposed and French-i-fied tool box. You can see how I added the French graphics to the toolbox here.
I really think the artichokes are perfect for it.
Here they are together.
You knew I couldn't help myself from talking about my hydrangeas, didn't you?
I can't believe how early they're blooming this year.
Not to mention how plentiful the blooms are.

Cue angelic chorus here.
Yes, I'm excited at the prospect of a summer full of hydrangeas.
What gets you excited about summer?

Well my friend, you know I do, as we were separated at birth but still share the same decorating obsessions! ;-) I have used them in floral arrangements but never found them with long stems. Something about the shape. You know hydrangea's make me happy too. Enjoy! Love, Penny
ReplyDeleteI ate a couple pieces of artichokes for the first time in my life recently. My husband boiled it and I wasn't impressed. I had never thought of it used as a decor. But I have to say the purple artichoke looks quite pretty.
ReplyDeleteI love to use Artichokes in arrangements! You really provided some great inspiration! Your Hydrangeas are lovely in your new Artichoke pitcher- another great score!
ReplyDeleteThey are pretty to decorate with. Your hydrangeas are beautiful - thanks for sharing them.
ReplyDeleteI had an arrangement with faux artichokes in it for years, now I don't remember what I did with it a while back.
I think I remember trying them many years ago, and was not impressed, so have not had any since. Have had the hearts in salads, but nothing special.
Have a great weekend.
Your arrangement is so pretty, and I love the pitcher too.
ReplyDeleteyou found some great pins, kathleen:) love the tablesetting esp. artichokes are beautiful in decorating--eating them is a whole other story--yuk!
ReplyDeleteI love these ideas, especially the first one with all of them in the simple white pitcher. I've never decorated with them because they wouldn't last...I'd eat them first; I like them cold with mayo. Years ago there was a fast food place called The Fried Artichoke...OMG, I lived on them. Love your beautiful hydrangeas!!
ReplyDeleteI love Artichokes but I've never ate them before. The artichoke design in a vase or pitcher, looks very interesting, and attractive especially if they have a hydrangea in them. or near by.. Have a good week end.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like such a beautiful place! It's been ages since I've been to the Hudson Valley but my husband and I were just talking about how we wanted to go!

Love how you've used your artichokes! They look so pretty gathered in the tool box (love the French graphics, too :)
ReplyDeleteSusan
Perfection! I adore the artichokes used as vases and may have to borrow this idea.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely 4th of July!
Hi Kathleen, I love your artichoke ideas! I haven't eaten one and don't want to but....I have used them around Thanksgiving for a candle holder. (just cut out the middle and put a tea candle in there) I sooo love the color and that first picture of them in a pitcher is eye-catching beautiful!! May have to try that one~~~thanks for the compliments on our new floor....Blessings~~~Roxie
ReplyDeleteLove the use of artichoke decor! Like you I've never eaten one and find the name weird. But you can't much more classic.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post! I never thought of using an artichoke as a container...
