French Wire Laundry Hamper For Less

August 11, 2014

Ever since we put the house up for sale, my posts have been sporadic at best. I mean, who wants to start a major painting/décor/DIY project when you know the house has to remain "show ready" all the time? Well, due to unforeseen circumstances (like a horrible real estate market where we live) we've taken the house off the market for the time being. It just seemed like the right thing to do, what with the kids about to start school and all. So hopefully I can start a few projects that I've put on the back burner after all these months.

Today I want to share with you a major-brand look-alike that I picked up a while back

at,

yes,

Wal-Mart.

You may remember when I shared my joy at finally becoming a proud owner

of this faux "olive bucket" from Wal-Mart's

Better Homes and Gardens Collection.

I was beside myself happy!

Well, enter another Better Homes and Gardens version of another one of my long-coveted home decor items:

The French Wire Laundry Hamper.

My pictures really don't do it justice. It's sturdy and quite large and I love it!

Of course Pottery Barn certainly has their version. I do love it, but not the price.

$159.99

French Wire Hamper & Ticking Stripe Liner

They also had a real look-alike version a few years ago.  Again, I like it. Just not the price.

$89.00

Look familiar?

(Sorry, the only source I can find for this picture is now on Pinterest, without any authentication. But I know when I originally found it it was on an old Pottery Barn page. I think it was 2010.)

Seems like Pottery Barn's not the only place that carries wire laundry hampers.

I came across this in my local World Market the other day.

The Ellie Rolling Hamper.

(Also look familiar?)

Original price: $99.00 (on sale for $79.99)

They also carried the Claudette Wire Hamper.

This one really spoke to me in all it's Frenchi-ness.

Original price: $81.99 (sale price $71.99).

Crate and Barrel also has a similar one for $59.95.

So let's recap:

Theirs: $89.00.  Mine: $19.89.

As much as I love my Wal-Mart version,
I just couldn't seem to leave well enough alone (surprise).

Stay tuned to see how I personalized it!

Oh, and run, don't walk to your local Wal-Mart if you want to get one of these for yourself. I don't imagine they'll last for long.

WAIT! Guess what I just found on Wal-Mart online?

This just keeps getting better and better, doesn't it?

I love this. They are so expensive if you find a vintage one.

Sorry to hear about the house, I bet in someway it is a relief not having to have it show ready....I know it is inconsistent as far as the housing market around the country, some are hot and some are not. Thanks for the heads up on the laundry baskets...So cool, I bet we will see a fabulous redo on it now that you are up and running again!

Arrrrrr...Car in the shop...must go to Wally Mart! You know I want one too! I've become smitten with the look of Cabbages and Roses fabrics... Wouldn't that hamper look charming with a liner covered in old roses? Oh Kathleen, you always inspire! Sorry about the house, but hope I'll get to see you around ;-). love, Penny

well who knew!! off to
Walmart I go. :) I found an old wire shopping cart that I use for a number of things..... the latest being I put a plastic liner in it and used it as the outdoor trash can for our family reunion. So much better than an ol' plastic one.

Nice find, Kathleen! I was going to ask if you were going to do anything to it, but you answered that. So, I will look forward to seeing what you have done to it! : )
