Hanging on to Summer: Southern Living's One Step Raspberry Beer Cocktail

Even though fall is my favorite season, hands down, I do love summer, too. And as much as I can't wait to start wearing comfy leggings with boots and warm, cozy sweaters, I'm a realist. I know that here in the Midwest we're going to experience an Indian summer for at least another month, if not longer. So why fight it?

That's why I wanted to share with you this quintessentially summer beverage called a Raspberry Beer Cocktail.

It's not too late to make a pitcher and enjoy!

I've never been one to drink hard liquor, or even wine. But I do love me some beer. As long as it's light beer, that is. I'd never mixed beer with anything before so I was intrigued by this recipe. It just sounded like it would be refreshing on a hot summer day. I think Mr. CBD thought I was a bit nuts, but he went along with me anyway.

Okay, don't these raspberries look delicious?

Here's the recipe from Southern Living:

Raspberry Beer Cocktail

Ingredients:

3/4 c. frozen raspberries*
3 1/2 (12 oz.) bottles beer, chilled
1 (12 oz.) can frozen strawberry lemonade
1/2 cup vodka
Garnish (optional): lemon and lime slices

Preparations:

1. Stir together first four ingredients. Serve over ice.
Garnish if desired.

*Fresh raspberries may be substituted.

I just mixed it all up and poured it into two vintage blue Ball Mason jars.

Then I threw in some extra frozen raspberries for good measure. Yum.

Next up will be my secret recipe for home brewed sun tea.

Well I hope you're enjoying those last warm and (hopefully) lazy days of Indian summer wherever you are. I know I'll be enjoying them with our kids and the new puppy!

Alert: Gratuitous puppy picture ahead.

I hope that makes you smile!

  3. Sounds yummy. I rarely drink beer as I usually get a terrible headache even after drinking half of one. Don't know if it is the sugar or the yeast. :(
    Enjoy your weekend!

  5. I'm not a beer drinker, but your recipe sure sounds good. We will be having an Indian summer here for a bit too.
