I love pillows. I love grain sacks and flour sacks.Match made in heaven, right? Perhaps you remember when I made a faux grainsack pillow with a Target dish towel a few years ago. I still love it and use it every day on the family room couch. But there's always room for one more grain or flour sack pillow, now isn't there?
I've had this vintage flour sack for years and can't believe that I just realized it's potential as a pillow cover! I used two regular bed pillows to fill it. It's so big that even a king size pillow didn't fill it up completely.
I didn't even bother to sew the side closed since I want to be able to remove the pillow inserts in the event I actually need them for our bed. That and the fact that I'm a terrible seamstress and I avoid sewing like the plague! I just took one of my oversized vintage crocheted table runners and wrapped it around the pillow inside on the open end. It looks quite pretty, actually.
I believe I bought the flour sack at our local Kane County Flea Market a few years ago for less than $25.00. Which in the world of vintage flour sacks is a pretty good price. I saw a similar one selling for $135.00 on Etsy. The only difference is that they sewed a zipper on the side for closure. I'm ok without that, and with an extra $110.00 in my pocket!
I'm really loving my milk glass pitcher. It makes a wonderful vase for my hydrangeas.
I still have my DIY monogram welcome sign chalkboard on the wall. I haven't come up with another saying yet, so it stays as is for now.
And some of you may remember my DIY French burlap storage ottoman. It's great as a side table or to stash extra books and newspapers in when I want to clean up in a flash. It has my Goodwill ironstone pitcher and basket on top. I also still have my Shabby Chic Dollar Store Valentine décor on the side table.
Even though I originally created it for Valentine's Day, I think it has a timeless, romantic vibe about it that I love.
So. I really love the look of this flour sack on the white slipcovered love seat. I believe I have another similar flour sack, but it's been stored away somewhere in light of the move. Once I find it I can use it to throw together a matching pillow for the other couch.

Love the whole look Kathleen. Don't you just love a "no sew" project. This is wonderful and so are your other pillows. I think pupster wants to take a nap up there.
ReplyDeleteLove this! It looks fabulous on your sofa! This is my kind of pillow, no sew!
ReplyDeleteKathleen,
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting my place, and enjoying all my French rustic cheese sign.
I love this Target cloth case you created, and I too saw the linens there and had thought of making one as well, I often take tea towels and create from them, I will use a linen tea towel for hand towels in my guest bathroom, love the look and feel over a typical terry towel.
Will be back for more of what you inspire here, love your look and design style.

That was a great idea to use the flour sack as a pillow. I've done that myself before with a grain sack. I even stitched a ribbon on the inside of the open edge so I could tie it shut. But, you can certainly leave it open and it's just fine. I like the graphics on your flour sack.
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat idea! It looks wonderful!

Just adorable. I have no idea where to buy vintage grain sacks but I've seen new "old" ones that would work, too. You did a great job. Now I must go see how to make a pillow with those Target dish towels we bought several yrs ago. I still have a couple.

Oh yes I like the new grain sack pillow. Isn't it funny how we have so many things to turn into a treasure around our studios? I have found things I have seen on other blogs and loved it and I found same thing buried in the studio drawers.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see the new puppy getting into the photobombs pictures
So pretty! Thanks for joining HSH!
ReplyDeleteLove your no sew pillow. Love that graphic on the grain sack.

Love that flour sack pillow so much! How clever you are that you can easily take it apart.
ReplyDeleteHave a beautiful weekend.
Can you wash the grain sacks? Just wondered if they were a kind of one off use until they get dirty of if they can be used long term. Yours looks fabulous btw xx
ReplyDeleteI love that, Kathleen! I have a burlap sack with some writing on it that I wanted to make into a pillow. I never thought to try a bed pillow. I'll be giving that a shot today and see if it fills it. Thanks for the tip!
