Friday Finds Classic Edition: Dining Chair Slipcover Transformation

Today's find is representative of how one small, simple
decor change can make a huge difference in how
a piece of furniture looks. I present you with the
BEFORE:

This is one of my dining room chairs. It belongs to a
fine old dining room set that was my husband's
when we got married almost 19 years ago.
He originally received it as a loaner from his sister.
The caning is long past it's prime, and even though the
upholstery you see was an upgrade DIY by Mr. CBD
at my request (19 years ago), the poor thing is just plain
lost in another era. What era that is, I'm still trying to figure out.

Enter my Goodwill Classic Find.

A brand new SureFit dining chair slipcover that I got for all of $3.99.

For years I've wanted to cover all 6 chairs, but when
push came to shove I always hemmed and hawed over
spending the money. Ironically, it was this exact
same cover that I had wanted to buy.

Something so basic, like the neutral cotton duck fabric,
can be used in any room in the house,
not just the dining room. And pillows
are the best accessory, I always say.

Here I've chosen to add a vintage grainsack pillow. I then
set the chair up in the foyer for a different
fall look along with all my favorite pretty pumpkins!

Not surprisingly, my love for cloches and trophies is pretty apparent, too, no?

This Goodwill-find pedestal was painted white and
distressed by me a long time ago. It has served
me well as a display piece for many beautiful
home décor items over the years.

I'm really loving this inexpensive décor change.
Once I'm done using it in the foyer
I'll simply return it back to the dining room.
The beauty of this type of chair cover is that
it can mix in easily with just about any style you
already happen to have going on in a room.
If I ever end up stumbling upon 5 more chair
slipcovers at Goodwill (not likely), I'll have it made.
But if not, that's ok, too, because I've always loved
the eclectic look you get when you mix and match
different styles of chairs around any table.

Like this.

What about you?

Are you a

MATCHY-MATCH  kind of person

or

a

MIX-IT-UP kind of person

when it comes to tables and chairs?

Well I hope everyone's having an awesome fall weekend.

I can't believe that Thanksgiving is only

three weeks away!

  1. What a great find! Your chair looks wonderful in this vignette! I love the pedestal too. You find the greatest items at Goodwill! I love different chairs at the head of the table, but overall I'm a "matchy" person.

  3. I absolutely love this whole vignette! Great idea with the chair! I have mismatched chairs around my dining room table...I like things to be more 'quirky' than 'matchy' :)

  7. Lucky find...I like the nice clean elegant look that a slip cover gives a chair and yours looks terrific. I absolutely love miss-matched chairs in someone else's decor!!! I've got to be matchy, matchy.
