Merry and Bright Flea Market Find into DIY Christmas Card Display

While some people choose to send Christmas cards via email, I just haven't
been able to get on that bandwagon. If it works for you, then I think that's great.
I'm just one of those people who really loves
sending and receiving Christmas cards in the mail from friends and family
each year. And if you're anything like me, you'll be wanting to display those
cards somewhere. I know the refrigerator works for some people, but what if
you'd like to try something else?

I picked up this wooden frame filled with chicken wire at a favorite
twice-yearly flea market a few years ago. Originally, I bought it for
displaying my vintage jewelry creations. But since then I've broadened
my horizons and come up with other uses for it. Right now it's serving as
our 2014 Christmas card display.

How did I make it? It's really simple.

First, I cut a piece of wide jute webbing to fit
across the empty space at the top of the frame.

(I can't remember where I bought mine but you can get it many
places online. Just Google "jute webbing.")

Then, I stenciled the words "Merry & Bright" across it.
I attached the webbing with two thumbtacks, just pushing them gently
into the frame. Since it really is a vintage piece, the wood is a bit fragile
so I had to be careful not to split it with the tacks.

Then I scrounged up some metal clips with little hooks on them that worked
perfectly for hanging the cards. They were used for hanging and organizing
little scrapbooking embellishments in a previous life. If you just look around and
get creative I'm sure you can come up with something unique to hang your cards
with as well.

Finally, I added a Dollar Store silver star ornament for a bit of bling.

 And voila.

Right now it's hanging on the side of my vintage stand-alone cabinet in our
kitchen eating area. Here's a peek at what's on top and above the cabinet.

Are you feeling the

JOY

yet?

I picked up the three gold letters (as well as "PEACE") for a
song at our village church's annual rummage sale.

Overall I'm really happy with how the card display turned out this year.

Who knows what I'll do next year!

Do you have a special way of displaying

your

Christmas cards each year?

  1. I LOVE your Christmas card display screen!! Very cute, and I love that you can see them easily, instead of piling them in a tray like I do.
