A while back I promised that I'd post about my thrift store finds once a week.
While I certainly haven't done it once a week, I am at least trying to catch up.
Just a few finds today but I am really happy with them, for a number of reasons
I'll explain below.
First up is this large lidded basket. As a DIY-er I'm always on the lookout for
things to transform. So I jumped on this basket as soon as I saw it and it's
price tag.
I thought this was a good deal since the basket is rather large (19"x15"x12") and
is in near perfect condition. While it's not exactly the same, I've seen similar
lidded baskets at Pottery Barn for upwards of $100.
I have specific plans for embellishing this basket to make it like some PB baskets
I have come to know and love. More on that in another post.
Moving on, I also picked up some vintage jewelry at Goodwill as well. Ironically, I
first began frequenting Goodwills looking for vintage jewelry to upcycle and sell in
my Etsy shop. After a few years, the jewelry inventory at the stores near me really
started to dry up. So now if I find any vintage jewelry it's a banner day!
It used to cost 99 cents but now it's 1.99 each.

Any time I see anything like this necklace I grab it. At first glance it looks like
marcasite, which is a type of jewelry that was made in the early 1900's. Marcasite
is actually a semi-precious stone. However, I think this necklace was made to
look like marcasite, but it's really made of clear rhinestones instead.
Here it is on my mannequin.
Up close you can see that it's made of rhinestones.
I'm all about the bling,people.
It really is beautiful. It's hard for me to use pieces like this in my designs
because I want to keep them for myself!
I also picked up a pair of darling pearl heart dangle earrings
that I believe are vintage as well. At a minimum they
are vintage-inspired.
Aren't they gorgeous?
I love the pearls and mix of gold and silver. Again, I'm tempted to keep these
just the way they are rather than take them apart to use in my vintage designs.
What would you do?
Stay tuned for my
lidded basket makeover!

Great deals!!
ReplyDeleteGave up trying to find vintage jewelry at GW shops here. I think most worth having goes to their online store.
Check to see if your necklace and earrings are marked. Do you have the link to the site that lists makers, years in operation, etc.? If not let me know and I will forward the link.
Enjoy the weekend!
What a great basket for the price. Those earrings are GORGEOUS! Hard to believe you found them at GW!!! xo Diana

Really looking forward to seeing what you do with the basket. It is so great already and with some embellishment and its size it would make a real feature.
