I was lucky enough to drive by a place recently that was advertising a pop up
estate sale for the next day. It only happens there about two times a year so I
was happy to be in the right place at the right time to find out about it in advance.
And of course I was there the next morning with bells on.
Since I'm trying to be more frugal than usual these days, I didn't go in with the
expectation of buying anything. Sometimes just looking around can be fun,
too! And I'm happy to report that I spent a relatively small amount of money
and managed to leave very happy.
I've always been drawn to ironstone of all kinds. These mini
ironstone pitchers drew me in right away.
Cost: $6.00 (value $40-$68, depending on where you look).
The detail on this one is exquisite.
I always look on the bottom of the piece first, to see the maker's mark, if any.
This dainty beauty is stamped "Royal Ironstone China, Johnson Bros. England."
I have a few other Johnson Brothers pieces, all thrifted as well.
This is the other petite ironstone pitcher that I just couldn't pass up.
Look at the scrolly accents. It's always the details that I fall in love with.
On the bottom of this one it says Warwick China.
Cost: $1.25 (value: ???)
I gotta sigh when I look at these beauties.
Now on to the next find. Here's a $5.00 purchase I
just could not pass up. A vintage rolling metal cart!

$5.00 was more than I wanted to spend for it but I've been wanting one
of these for a lo-o-o-n-g time, and I knew that if I didn't snatch it up someone
else would, pronto. It folds up for easy storage, and it sits at the ready for that
next big flea market where it will help carry home all my goodies!
Or not.
Perhaps it was meant to sit in my laundry room after all. I mean, I already had
the canvas hamper that seems to fit inside near perfectly. And Lord knows I
could use some help corralling all those dirty clothes that somehow end up on
the laundry room floor. A match made in heaven.
Last but not least I picked up a vintage mirrored tray with a gold filigree
frame for a few bucks.
I have a few of these mirrored trays already, only smaller. I already have an idea
for how I might use this one. It reminds me of the tray my mom had on her dresser
filled with bottles of fancy perfumes when I was a little girl.
I also want to show you what Chickadee number three picked up as well. He came
along for the ride and, as always, had a good time junkin with me. I must say I've
raised my kids well ha ha.
He loves treasure boxes of any kind. He thought this one looked especially
cool with all the woodwork on it. Came to find out when we got home that it's
a bank. He also l-o-v-e-s dogs. Did I say he loves dogs? He has a collection of
ceramic dogs we picked up here and there at local Goodwills. But that Terrier
takes the cake -- there are two of them because they're salt and pepper shakers!
Two for a dollar.
He's also a big fan of old bottles. For fifty cents he got a vintage Stiepp's
(of Chicago) beer bottle from the 1930's. Value: around $10-$15.00. It was
neat reading about the history of the Stiepp Company in Chicago. I stopped
back at the sale the next day to see if any beer bottles were left (for resale) but
no such luck. My favorite is the ship in a bottle. I can never figure out how they get
all those little pieces in there!
So that's it for now. I did end up making it to a big flea market last weekend,
but no real scores to speak of (read: none). Like I said, though, I'm trying to
save money so I came out ahead! At least that's what I'm telling myself.

have it with me. I too, love white pitchers and creamers course, mine are
not antique or anything but I love them just as well.
