The Mystery of the Pink Peonies

June 4, 2015

pink peony flower with petals

You won't believe this but I stumbled, yes stumbled, upon a peony bush in my back
yard yesterday. "What's so strange about that?" you ask.
Well, let's just say that I had no idea how it got there.

Don't even ask me how this could be. And what's even weirder is that on the
same spot I found the peony bush I vividly remember planting a butterfly bush,
many years ago. And that butterfly bush has produced pretty orange flowers
each and every summer. Except for this one. Because it's gone.
And there's a peony bush in its place.

I have to say that if I ever DID plant a peony bush I would plant one with
pink flowers just like this one. Some might call them fuschia.
I've decided I love them so much that I'm going
to create a peony Pinterest board.

And of course now everywhere I look there seems to be blooming peony
bushes in all colors. I guess it's like how you never notice how many of a certain
car there are until you buy that car. Then you see it EVERYWHERE.
But that's ok because they're so, so pretty.

So gorgeous I just had to share.

And I have to fess up.

After I started writing this post I mentioned the peonies to my husband,
asking him if HE remembers planting them.

His reply:

"You did, Kathy."

Oops!

For those of you that are wondering, I am not THAT old.

Well, I guess that depends on your definition of old......

Whatever that is, I would ask that you to keep it to yourself
if you know what's good for you!

In your defense my friend, that peony has been there for a while. They may take a few years to establish themselves, with a flower or bud until they put on a show. That plant can live for decades. You, my artistic friend have a dozen projects in your head and several in progress at any moment...easy to forget a plant you put in the ground a few or even one year back. Feel better? I hope so. Gosh they are lovely! Love, Penny

I had a wonderful scenario in my mind of a peonies lover out to spread the word, sneaking into people's garden at night and planting a bush. They chose a great color for you :-)
