Christmas Gift Bag Wall Art

November 20, 2015

Are these the cutest bags ever or what? I saw them at the Dollar Store and originally picked them up to use as gift bags.  But once I got them home I knew that they were made for so much more. We've all seen the pricey Christmas wall art that's sold each year by stores like Pottery Barn. Unfortunately, the price tag is always too rich for my bank account.

I knew these two bags were destined for greatness. I thought their colors and styles complimented each other, not to mention the 3-D look they had about them even though they're perfectly flat.

The boxes have all kinds of sparkles on them that you can't see in this picture. It's quite awesome. How can you go wrong with wreaths and presents?

I had a refurbished thrift store frame that was just waiting to be filled with some Christmas wall art. Here's the sad before picture, pre-painting.

Here's two "after" pictures, showing how I used it for Halloween wall art last year.  If you're interested, you can just stop on by for the free chalkboard Halloween printables  to save for next Halloween.

Okay, so back to Christmas!

Before I started cutting the bags I made sure that the majority of the artwork would be seen in the frame. Then I took the glass out of the frame and traced it out over each graphic so I would know where to cut. Once I cut the bags apart, I placed the pictures in the frame and voila.

When something is this simple I almost feel guilty, you know? But that doesn't mean that I'm not happy with the result! And truth be told, you probably already have some pretty and/or cute Christmas bags lying around that you could use for a project like this. You could also just use your favorite Christmas wrapping paper! Or Christmas scrapbook paper. And depending on the size of the frame you might just want to use some old Christmas cards as well. I always love me a good repurpose!

Doggone it was just at $tree yesterday, was looking at holiday bags, thinking about cutting them up for some wall art and walked by, darn it. Ah well maybe next year. Love your wall art, it is so cute and so perfect, love it when people can make things inexpensively and fairly easily. What a fantastic idea you had.
I won't have whole month before holiday to make things this year as having right shoulder replaced on Dec.7th and my time for creating is screeching to halt much too quickly. Kinda hard to craft with one wing disabled darn it. But have to do it so will just lump it this year. Sure enjoyed your post, so imaginative and smart way to make something so awesome. Happy Thanksgiving.

Really cute idea for using the pretty bags. I bought some real interesting ones from Dollar Tree last week with the same idea ... gift bags, but they would really make nice wall art. I will have to give them a second look. Thanks for the idea. Always happy to see the Vintage Charm party every week. Thanks for hosting.
