Welcome, friends, to another fun-filled Friday Finds post where I share my latest thrifty (and usually) vintage finds with you.
My hope is that by sharing my thrifty finds I can motivate and
inspire you to explore your own local thrift stores, estate sales,
flea markets and barn sales and make your own fabulous finds for
yourself. So let's get started.
First off there’s this awesome retro midcentury modern cocktail shaker I picked up at Goodwill for $1.99. You’d think I was a Mad Men fan if you saw the collection of cocktail shakers I’ve got going. You might recall this cocktail shaker that started off the whole collection thing.
My latest shaker is a bit different in that it’s much more colorful. Ironically, I don’t drink liquor, but I love the 12 drink recipes printed on it just the same.
Whiskey Sour, Martini, Gin & Tonic,
Vodka Collins, Bloody Mary, Hiball,
Old Fashioned, Manhattan, Daiquiri,
On the Rocks, Tom Collins, Bacardi
I thought it made a nice display with the new highball glass/tumbler I stumbled upon last week at Salvation Army. Apparently, people needed a printed recipe for “on the rocks.” 2-3 ice cubes. 1 jigger liquor. Pour over cubes. Serve. Brilliant.
Here's a Whiskey Sour recipe. I remember my parents drinking these.
And here's an Old Fashioned recipe. What are bitters, anyway? This vintage Whiskey Sour Old Fashioned glass tumbler is AVAILABLE.
You can see my cool vintage cocktail spoons/stirrers in the glass. I picked them up at the Randolph Street Market in Chicago a few months ago.
And here's a close-up of the funky artwork on the top of the shaker as well as the lid.
Last but not least here's the double-sided stainless steel jigger I picked up at Goodwill for $1.99. I thought it rounded out the retro set nicely.

I think it's funny that you collect cocktail shakers but you don't drink. It's amazing the things that catch our fancy.

I love your Mad Men cocktail shakers. I have a couple of shakers on my bar cart. I'm not much of a drinker but I found the bar cart a few years ago and couldn't pass it up. I have several pieces of vintage bar paraphernalia on the cart. sb
What fun, Kathleen. When we packed up John's grandmother's house we found a 1940s/50s/60s bar completely intact. We took most of it and my son has it in his basement bar room. I am so glad to have it- real treasures. xo Diana
I always resisted buying the vintage barware. However I always liked it. A friend has a lot of the art deco shakers and I love them, she has them on an old glass art deco bar cart.
I did buy a lot of stirrers with advertisements on them and sold them also since I didn't do the bar thing
I went to the Mad Men exhibit in New York City last July, all the sets were on display along with their clothes and bar wear in the office

Very fun bar collectibles, Kathleen. Such a fascinating era. My mother drank Whiskey Sours, too, but my father preferred Manhattans. I'm like you, not much a drinker, but I do like a nice glass of red--
