Today I'm sharing a Valentine's decor project as my submission for the Junk Revision Challenge for February. But I wouldn't say it's made of junk. "Thrifted home décor" would be more my choice of words for it. As I mentioned when I shared my DIY Valentine's Day Chalkboard, I've never really been one to decorate for Valentine's Day. But these blogger group challenges have definitely helped me step up my game this year!
Just last week I shared with you my Goodwill'd white farmhouse shuttered mirror makeover project. I knew when I painted it that I would get a lot of photo shoot/display mileage out of it. And so far I have not been disappointed. It made the absolute perfect backdrop for a vintage-mod Valentine's display.
I originally bought a basket from Goodwill in the shape of a heart (cost $1.99). I wasn't in love with the fake geraniums, but that was okay because I knew they were coming out.
Once I took the flowers out I painted the basket shabby chic pink with some Martha Stewart acrylic paint I got for free. Here, up close, you can see the pink. But then what?
Enter Target and Michael's, and my world suddenly got turned upside down. I bit the bullet and invested in a few $1.00 Valentine's Day supplies that I knew I could use to spruce up this Goodwill basket. My most favorite $1.00 find is definitely the "Love lives here" painted burlap sign from Target. I mean, how sweet is that? It's something I would like to find a place for, where I can hang it all year long. It's that sweet.
Next up from Target were these awesome "arrow" clothespins. Decked out in felt and bling, they pack a powerful red punch in this vignette. 3 for $1.00. Not bad at all.
Now on to the bouquet of mini red roses I picked up at Trader Joe's. I really do believe that any type of red flower makes the best Valentine's Day decor. And I do love me some roses! Again, here's another instance where the red really pops against the white background.
I placed them in a vintage white Haeger ironstone pitcher from the Salvation Army that I'll be sharing soon in my next Friday Finds post. Aren't they gorgeous?
And last but not least I just had to throw these in because, well, how could I not?
I mean it just wouldn't be Valentine's Day without some conversation hearts now, would it? Some of you might remember my DIY gumball machine waterless snow globes from this past Christmas. They are one of my most popular projects to date, and are definitely one of my favorites! Well, funny story. My husband and I were visiting downtown Chicago for our 20th wedding anniversary back in December, and one of the places we stopped in to visit (like the tourists we were) was Dylan's Candy Bar. Have you ever heard of it? It's a unique boutique candy shop owned by Dylan Lauren, Ralph Lauren's daughter. She opened her first store in New York City back in 2001 and it was a huge hit. She now has 14 stores across the country.
Anyway, while walking around the three-story candy shop I came across these babies. Even my husband knew I HAD to have them. They were just a couple of bucks and I can use them for cute displays like this one or just for the kids. (My son has put in his order for Lemonheads once Valentine's Day is over.)
So I'm very happy to report that my $4.99 Goodwill farmhouse shuttered mirrored has already proven to be an invaluable prop for photo shoots, as well as a valuable décor item in and of itself. And the Goodwill $1.99 basket wreath, coupled with some inexpensive crafty decorations and fresh flowers, has made a pretty Valentine's vignette to brighten up our otherwise dreary February days.
So, what do you do?
Do you decorate for Valentine's Day?
Well, that's it until next time, friends!

Love the heart basket with the arrows. Maybe I shouldn't be passing up those baskets at the Goodwill.
What a fun Valentine vignette! You have some great finds here!
Got to love those $1 bins at Target. I can never pass them without at least looking. Adorable Valentine vignette!

Adorable! I love your garland. Everything looks so great together. Happy Valentines Day!
Wow you really go all out on Valentines day everything is so cute...love it all!
This vignette is so cute Kathleen - I love everything about it. Cathy
It's so pretty Kathleen! I love how the reds and pinks pop against the white. That banner is so sweet.
Your vignette turned out awesome for someone who never decorates for Valentine's day! It's a good thing the closest Target is almost an hour away or I would be in trouble! Those little arrows are doable with some craft materials. Thanks for the inspiration.
Great project and I like your shutter backdrop too! Creative use and updates to make a sweet vignette.
Love this vignette! And now I'm thinking I should run to target!
One girl's basket is another girl's upcycle. Such a sweet vignette and I love that it's so easy to change up!!
What a great Valentine vignette! Love it. I want some of those clothespins.
xo Dianne
Such a pretty vignette! I really love the heart! And I also love those gumball machines! I've got to get me one! Thanks for stopping by the I Heart Blogging Link Party!!
$1 bin? Why don't we get those here? I love how you've transformed this into a one of a kind.
I love your Valentine's decor. Sweet arrows.
Anybody can go out to buy Valentine goodies but to me they mean even more when you re-purpose some goodies as you did. Took some thought and planning and look at what you came up with that could be hung up to be seen all year. That's a gift. Love what you did and what you used to do it. You deserve a big gold star.
I got an arrow garland at Target, have it hanging on my shutter shelf. Made a wreath with'some sparkly hearts from $tree and used an old wreath I got for $1. Think I"m going to put the arrows on the wreath, it's square. Can wind it around the hearts I glued on. Can't really see them as we have bigger tv now under shutter shelf and it covers up the arrows.
Great project. Happy Valentines and weekend
What a great Valentine vignette. I've got a similar basket and NEED to do something with it NOW! Have an empty peg now that the Christmas stuff is down! Great makeover.
LOVE all of these Valentine's decorations, but the clothespin arrows are my favorite, Kathleen!
