Sometimes the best projects really are the simple ones. Case in point: this dark cathedral "window" frame, sans window, that had seen better days. I'm not sure if it had a window or maybe even a mirror inside it originally but clearly it was going solo now. I've had it for so long (waiting patiently in the to-do pile) that I can't even remember where I bought it. I believe it was at a local resale store. I know I would not have paid more than $6 for it, and it was probably less. I originally bought it to use as a jewelry display piece, but I abandoned that idea somewhere along the way. And now I'm glad I did.
You can see that it was mostly dark, almost black, and even red in some spots. It was also just banged up enough to make my heart sing. I loved that it had a shelf for: 1. being able to balance it on a table so that I don't have to hang it on the wall if I don't want to and: 2. having a spot to rest some special decor pieces on when using it in a vignette.
You can see the wire that was already strung across the back of it. I figured I could add two more wires beneath it and use the wires to to hang pictures from. I also saw it being used as a message center of sorts as well.
Three coats of white paint later and ta-da! I'm giddy with how spring-y it makes me feel, and how the colors really brighten my mood. See how just a little white paint can transform a thrifted cathedral window frame into pretty and practical farmhouse decor?
Before I even added any more wire I just had to hang these gorgeous and oh-so-springy paper flowers I picked up at Target for $3.00. I knew the colors would just pop against the white. For now I'm happy with my cathedral window just the way it is.
I added this gorgeous spring printable on a clipboard for another splash of color. I got it from Well Made Heart. You have to stop over there and download a free copy to add to you printables library! (Wait, am I the only one with a printables library?)
Here I added a thrifted colander filled with faux robins' eggs that I still had out from Easter. I think it's springy enough to be left out for a while, don't you?
I picked up the small colander at Goodwill for a song. It came with a matching larger one that I also filled with eggs and used for Easter decor. I can tell that I'll be having fun and playing around with this painted cathedral "window" for a long time to come.

Nice makeover, Kathleen. I love the cathedral shape--sets it apart from all the rest. The flowers from Target are darling. Nice job!
