I'm thrilled to report that I have some awesome thrifting finds to share with you all today, so let's get started shall we? First up is a 5 quart monogrammed Friedman Silver Company Pilgrim solid pewter pitcher I picked up at Salvation Army. I always love it when I find something that has what I like to call a pedigree on it. You can call it a maker's mark, but pedigree sounds so much more impressive, don't you think?
Here's the pedigree.
I knew I'd hit the jackpot when I saw the price tag on this one: $4.68. Although a high price for a thrift store find (for me), I went ahead with it because I found it on ebay for $42.00. Have you ever done that? Googled something right then and there in the middle of the store to see if it's a great find and/or steal? I have to say that sometimes it's the google search that puts me over the edge and helps me justify the purchase.
I loved the shape of the handle as well as the spout.
And I couldn't properly show it off without filling it with some spring blooms, now could I?
These lovely, vibrantly colored daffodils came from our yard.
I wonder what the "S" stands for? I also wonder what it was used for, whether it was a wedding or anniversary gift, and how old it really is. I know the Friedman Silver Company went into business in 1908 and continued until 1960 when they were bought out by Gorham. I guess that means it would have to be somewhere between 108 and 56 years old.
I also picked up this lidded basket for $3.00. It's an exact duplicate of a larger version I already have, also from Goodwill a number of years ago. I thought they'd look nice stacked on top of each other. I'm a sucker for any basket with leather straps on it.
On a crafting note I also picked up these three new Craftsmart paint brushes for $3.00 -- score! I normally buy synthetic Dollar Store brushes (pretty impressive, huh?) but these felt like they were made out of absolute silk. Their bristles were so soft and pliable, I really can't wait to use them on an upcoming project.
I picked up two other awesome finds but I'm saving them for another Thrill of the Hunt. I can't wait to share them but I want to make sure that I get some good photos of them before I do. They were a very special find for me and I'm soooo happy I found them! Okay, no more talking about them until next time.
What's your weekend looking like? I'm happy to be coming off of a full week of my daughters' high school play practice affectionately called "Tech Week" (read: full practice runs every night for a week until 10:30 p.m.) and a weekend of cheer tryouts as well as three play performances. The upcoming weekend will be blissfully uneventful, or at least I can hope, right? And spring seems to have really sprung in my neck of the midwest. And that, my friends, makes me very, very happy. Whatever you have going I hope you all have a great weekend!

Oh my, I love that pitcher! I would have bought it, pedigree or no. :) Nice basket too. Ah, the mad dash to the end of school. I can't say I miss them. That was always a very hectic time! Glad Spring has sprung in your corner of the world! Daffodils are so cheerful, aren't they? Yours are beautiful!
Great pitcher, Kathleen! Perfect with your daffodils! Blessings, Cecilia
Love the pewter pitcher and you know I never met a basket I didn't like. Nice brushes too!
Sounds like you certainly had a thrilling hunt this week, Kathleen :) Your pewter pitcher is just lovely--great shape as you pointed out, and it looks perfect with your daffodils. I'm a bit jealous because mine didn't come up for some reason--maybe that late snow did them in. Hope your week-end is terrific--
Love the pewter pitcher. It's perfection, and looks perfect with the daffodils. Our daffodils are just starting to peek out of the ground. Hopefully we'll see them soon. Love the basket too!
