Frugal Flip: Mini Memo Board/Mail Organizer

May 25, 2016

Today's frugal flip involves a mini memo board /mail organizer that I picked up at Goodwill for $1.99. We already had a perfectly good mail organizer that we'd been using for the last 10 years. But 10 years is a long time and I was ready for a change. Plus, I thought this mini memo board/mail organizer was too darn cute (and cheap) to pass up.

Here it is all plain Jane.

If it didn't have key hooks I wouldn't have bothered. But it did, so it was a keeper.  And yes, that's mega dust you see in the cracks. Don't worry, I always thoroughly clean my finds before painting them.

So I picked up my Americana Decor Chalky Finish paint in
Everlasting (white) and got to work.

Two coats later, here she is all spiffed up and ready to go.

You can see here in my mudroom makeover what we were using to hold outgoing mail and keys. Like I said, there was nothing wrong with it. It was just pretty "blah" and had served its purpose for over 10 years.

And here's the new prettified organizer.

Notice how it matches my DIY thrift store mirror/coat rack?
There IS a method to my madness, you know.

Right now it's not exactly centered on the wall, but that's because I wanted to use the nails that were already there from the prior organizer. I can always move it later if it starts to drive me crazy for not being centered.

Here you can see that I played around with the things I hung on the memo board. That's because I truly wanted it to spark joy, as it is something we will see every time we enter and leave the house. Sorry, but I couldn't resist making that tongue-in-cheek remark after just having read Marie Kondo's recent bestseller "Spark Joy." My opinion on that will take an entire blog post in and of itself!

I'm a real printable junkie, so I frequently frame and/or hang printables all over the house. You can get your own beautiful, inspirational Proverbs 31 printable from On Sutton Place. Ann is such a creative and talented artist you really need to check her out!

Besides the awesome bulletin board space, there are spaces for outgoing mail, invites that need an RSVP, tickets I don't want to lose....the list is endless.

And of course there's the key hooks. I automatically hang my car keys on the first hook as soon as I walk in the door. Do you do that, too? It really helps me stay sane (most of the time) since I can't stand misplacing my keys! Sometimes I even hang my sunglasses there.

I'm not sure if I'm going to keep the name "Frugal Flips" for this line of posts but I think it'll do for now. If it becomes more and more of a regular thing (which I think it will) then I might revisit the name. What do you think?

"Frugal Flip": Yay or Nay?

It turned out great! I think it's nice to have the added cork board and hooks for keys. As for the name of the weekly post, I like it. It's frugal and you flipped it. Very fitting. :-)
