Yes, it's that time again. Time for Thrill of the Hunt #33 - where I share my latest thrifty finds. This time it's ironstone, stainless steel, collector plates and tins. Some vintage, some not so vintage. Either way I hope you'll stick around and see what thrifty finds I've got for you this week.
First up, this spectacular stainless steel......any guesses? I really didn't have a clue as to what it was when I brought it home from Goodwill. I just knew that I could use it for oh so many DIY farmhouse home decor ideas!
Most of you have probably already guessed what it is. Me, I had to look it up. But once I found out what it was I understood why I had never seen it before. It's a Salmon Fish Kettle Poaching Pan!
We're not big fish eaters in this house. Like no fish at all. Nada. Zero. So even though I sometimes think we own every possible kitchen gadget known to man, we have never owned one of these.
I love the fact that it has a lid, and I can totally see me doing something funky with the inner metal strainer thingy.
Here's another item that I mentioned in my Top 5 list: Ironstone. I mentioned all kinds of ironstone, but pitchers in particular. I love using them as vases as well as just plain and simple farmhouse decor.
If you have a bunch to display together they look so darned cute all lined up. On a mantel, sideboard, hanging shelf, you name it.
Some of them have maker's marks which make them more valuable, although this one does not. But that's okay since I only spent $2.99 for it at Goodwill and, well, I love it!
Any state plate collectors out there? At one point in time when we thought we were moving I had this grand idea of starting a kitschy state plate wall in our new home. When that whole thing fell through I was left with some collectible state plates and a penchant for buying them!
While I never heard of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, I thought it was an interesting-sounding destination. My hope was that the plate was vintage (as the Incline Railway has been in service since 1895) but I'm feeling now like it's probably not. Apparently it's quite the tourist destination near Chattanooga, Tennessee. One of my more expensive Goodwill purchases, I paid $3.99 for it.
Last but not least is this tiny tin tray. It's only 7 1/2" x 6" with some darling little birds, berries and flowers on it. Another find I hoped was vintage, but I really can't tell for sure. But that's okay since I spent all of 50 cents on it and it makes me smile.
Would you say they're robins?
Well that's it for this week!
I hope you enjoyed reading about my
Thrill of the Hunt finds!
That beautiful silver item is what I believe to be a fish steamer. I saw something similar at Macy's. The little tray is adorable, but coming from the NW, the birds are not robins. I will be anxious to find out what they are. I just found two small red trays with a floral motif. Don't know what they were used for...any guess?
ReplyDeleteI would have thought the stainless steel thing was a vintage sterilizer pan for doctor's offices, but not with that strainer inside. Otherwise, it looks like a sterilizer pan.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, Lookout Mountain in Tennessee is a destination. Very scenic place.
ReplyDeleteI knew what the fish pan was soon as I seen it. I use to see these in European cookbooks.
I guess you were never in the southern states if you had never heard of Lookout Mountain Tennessee. I was there several year ago and there use to be several billboards advertising Lookout Mountain.
yes that's a fish poacher. we actually own one. i love fish (not salmon in particular tho) and i think i've used ours maybe once. i think we registered for one when we got married and that's how we have it. i'm gonna break it out, now that you reminded me. i'm guessing yours is stainless steel like ours. i love the ironstone pitcher. don't blame you for snatching that up. thrifting is so fun! see ya tomorrow @ vintage charm party. xo- mj
ReplyDeleteGreat finds, Kathleen! I know you are going to have fun with that fish poacher! Why cook with it when you can decorate with it instead?! ;)
ReplyDeleteThe stainless steels vessel can also be use as a terrine maker by removing the tray. Double use.
ReplyDeleteYou got yourself some good finds there, Kathy. I'm partial to ironstone pitchers myself, so I think that's my favorite :)
ReplyDeleteYou found a bunch of great things on this hunt. Love the Lookout Mountain plate and the ironstone pitcher. Thank you for sharing at Snickerdoodle.
ReplyDeletefun! I too thought some kind of medical sterilizer until i read your post. Huh. learn something new.
ReplyDeleteThe state plate idea is great! I was thinking the same thing but with plates and other souvenirs from places we lived or where we grew up. I did a blog post about decorating with state plates too. :) http://www.therecycleista.com/decorate-with-vintage-a-vintage-state-of-mind-souvenir-state-plates/
