Okay, I think I need an intervention. Christmas placemats from Target have become somewhat of an obsession for me. I buy them on clearance and then I make pillows out of them. It's as simple as that. Target has come through for me every year, and this year is no exception.
First up this year was the woody wagon with Christmas tree placemat that I got for $1.18. I couldn't believe my luck when I found it on clearance. I shared my Easy DIY Christmas Pillow From Target Placemat as well as some pillow-making tips as my first Christmas project of the season.
Keeping in line with the Christmas-tree-on-the-car-roof theme, I lucked out yet again. Now I could see a red and green buffalo check pattern becoming a thing for me this year. I fell in love with the green check and the tassels on this one.
Oh, the tassels! I have to admit that it was not on clearance, but it was the LAST one and I really didn't see it showing up as a clearance find this year. Or so my self-justification goes. Anyway I just loved it.
For this pillow I had to rip out the seam on one entire side since I was filling it with a pillow form rather than with polyfil. The opening had to be as large as possible to allow me to insert the pillow form. I must admit I had a small panic attack when I realized that when I started ripping out the seam I might also rip out the tassels. Big sigh of relief when I learned that the tassels were securely sewn into the placemat and would not be lost if I ripped out the side seam.
As with all my DIY pillows, I used clear thread. My pillow form was a bit small for the placemat so I ended up wrapping it in batting. Then I filled in any gaps with polyester fiberfill and sewed the seam back up the side. I couldn't have been more happy with it.
Yes, that's it in the background. I had to show it here as a serious close-up shot since I can't really show you any more of what's in the picture. If I did I might end up giving away the subject matter of an upcoming post and I'd rather not do that.
I think it fits in quite well with my Ikea red buffalo check pillow covers and my red and green buffalo check down comforter.

Last but not least I have to fess up. As much as I L.O.V. E. DIY, and love making my own pillows for less, sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and buy a ready-made pillow.
Now before you go all "Well, this isn't DIY now is it?" allow me to explain.
1. It goes with my theme.
2. It's actually embroidered. Em-broi-dered.
3. It was $9.99 at K-Mart's black Friday sale.
4. I know.
So clearly I'm going to need a pillow intervention some time soon. I just hope it's after Christmas. Do you prefer to make or buy your pillows? Or do you just change out pillow covers with the seasons?

Loving all your pillows. Usually like to make my own pillow covers so they can be changed out for season/holidays. Especially loving your green check with tassels on sides. Your red checked pillows are so bright and cheerful
Did buy pillow from Target last year with truck/tree depiction, couldn't resist. Was on sale or wouldn't have spent money for it. Love my pillows.
Better stop so can go to Habitat. Was going to stay home today but can't resist what might find and it's either senior discount or veterans discount day. Have wonderful day and week
I saw that tassel placemat at Target and thought pillow but by the time I decided to do it they were gone at the local Target. Love all your placemat pillows.
Never found such an adorable pillow cover before. I use dark color covers to avoid stains of my hair oil. Thanks for sharing. Keep posting.
