Jewelry armoires come in all shapes and sizes. I had a vintage tabletop jewelry armoire in my stash for well over a year and figured it was high time that I transformed it into something either my daughters or I would love to call our own. I received some paint from Dixie Belle Paint Company a few months back and I knew the vintage jewelry armoire would be just the right fit for one of my first Dixie Belle projects.

I give you Exhibit A: one vintage tabletop jewelry armoire that could really use an update.
In addition to its dark and dingy outdated exterior, the
inside wasn't looking any better.
Worse, in fact. Yuk.
You can clearly see that this armoire was well loved in another life.
But my job is to give things new life so here goes.
(I love that name, just sayin'.)
Not a surprise that I chose white, is it?
Here she is after being painted, but before being
glammed up with my jewelry for the photo shoot.
Well, what do you think?
I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. Now it has that shabby chic distressed look I love, and I can see me using it for many years to come. (Notice how I've already decided to keep it for myself? Sorry, girls.)
Door hardware before.
I absolutely love the way that Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint covered my project beautifully with absolutely no prior priming or sanding whatsoever. I did use two coats but that's because the original wood color was so incredibly dark. The dried paint had a soft, smooth, chalky finish that was just the outcome I was looking for with this piece. The coverage was fantastic!
As you can see, I went ahead and painted directly over the hardware (metal door pull and drawer pulls) and the result was perfect!
Drawer pull before.
Drawer pull after.
Dixie Belle Mineral Chalk Paint is super easy to distress. I just ran a sanding sponge over the corners and hardware for an authentic, aged look.
Here it is flanked by two other jewelry storage pieces I adore. The one on the right is my Pottery Barn monogram jewelry display cloche. The one on the left is another pretty jewelry storage box given to me by my husband. I think all three go very well together.
The inside of the vintage armoire has a carousel for necklaces along with an area in the bottom for ring storage. I have to say that the ring section needed a good cleaning and some intervention. So I revamped it by cleaning it up and then covering it with some vintage lace from my stash. I think it worked out nicely.
I did a little research on Etsy and it turns out that there are a ton of these upcycled jewelry armoires for sale for quite a bit more than I would have anticipated. I think I paid around $3.99 for this one at Goodwill, which is a lot by my thrifting standards. Similar upcycled ones on Etsy were going for $50.00 and up! Maybe I ought to part ways with it and start searching for another one to work on!
The drawers will be perfect for storing some of my vintage
rhinestone brooches, among other things.
Pure beauty shot. These pretty floral necklaces are my go-to in the spring and summer months.
Can you tell I like rhinestones?
Now that I've gotten a small Dixie Belle Mineral Chalk Paint project completed I'll be setting my sights on something bigger and better. There IS that vintage seed cabinet that's been taking up space in the garage. Mr. CBD would love for me to paint that next! I'll keep you posted!
A big thank you goes out to Dixie Belle for
providing me with such awesome paint.
And another big thank you goes out to

Oo, that turned out so pretty! What a nice piece...I might have to go find me one to redo!
ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely little chest now Kathleen! I have several in my stash waiting for makeovers too. I'm continually impressed by what I see from Dixie Belle.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a lovely project, Kathleen...something you'd be happy to have decorating your dresser now!
ReplyDeleteIt turned out beautifully. I love that you painted the hardware. Your photos are so lovely.
ReplyDeleteLovely transformation, Kathleen!
ReplyDeleteThat turned out so pretty Kathleen. Wonderful transformation!
ReplyDeleteI would have preferred keeping the hardware as-is. I like the brass look; painting it hides some of the details in the hardware. Over time, the painted handles will become chipped lone before the painted wood.
ReplyDeleteVery nice update seeing as how you like white; I would have voted for an ivory/cream. I don't usually like painted hardware but the brass didn't make it with the white. I think you should find a second box, update it, then decide which one you like better before parting with this one! Best of both worlds that way!
