Thrill of the Hunt #48

Hello, friends! We've been soaking up the sunshine and enjoying warmer weather here in the midwest - hallelujah to that, I say! How about you? Nicer weather means more flea markets, barn sales and garage sales for sure! So let the official thrifting season begin! To that end I've got a few more thrifted goodies to share with you today.

I am not a cat fan. Never have been. But I knew when I saw this baby at the Salvation Army that it might just be a collectible. I mean, a porcelain persian cat that's also a pin cushion?

Just look at the detail on those pretty pastel flowers!

It says Himark Made in Taiwan on the bottom. It's also in pristine condition. I just know that there's a vintage pin cushion collector out there who would love to have this one. I believe it's from the 1960's. This vintage porcelain persian cat pin cushion is SOLD.

Next up is a Fitz and Floyd 1991 Reynard Fox salt and pepper shaker set. At first I thought it was just a whimsical salt and pepper shaker set to add to my ever-growing collection. Come to find that this is just the tip of the iceberg -- at a minimum there's also a teapot, sugar bowl and creamer as part of this collection, if not more.

I mean just look at the detail!

Here it is taken apart. I believe the fox is the pepper and the tree stump is the salt.

I mean, how cute is this, right?

Here's more detail showing the fine pottery work and painting.
My 1991 Fitz and Floyd Reynard salt and pepper shaker set is SOLD.

As I've mentioned previously, vintage Christmas items seem to hunt me down wherever I go. In Thrill of the Hunt #45, I shared with you a collectible Coca-Cola Christmas glass with a vintage-looking Santa painted on it. It was one of a three glass series. Now I'm happy to report that I stumbled upon not another single glass, but a different set (of 5) glasses painted by the same artist, Haddon Sundblom. I believe they're from the 1990's and are selling for up to $5.00 a glass. Not bad for a Goodwill Christmas find! Glass set is SOLD.

Haddon Sundblom was a noted artist who painted Santa Claus for Coke's marketing campaigns from 1931 to 1964. I'm not sure if you had to purchase the glasses or if they were part of some promotional campaign where you got them for free.

This set of glasses shows a close-up of Santa holding a bottle of Coke, while the first glass I found shows Santa with a bag of toys and a glass of Coke in his hand. I am now on the lookout for the other two glasses to finish off that three glass set! (I'm assuming they're worth more as a set than they're worth individually.) Like I always say, there's never a bad time for finding vintage Christmas goodies!  Wouldn't you agree? Well, that's it for this week, friends!
