As each year passes I am drawn more and more to simplicity in my Christmas decorating. This year is no exception. I have, however, remained firm in my commitment to doing it all as inexpensively as possible. And that's where this particular Christmas decor idea comes in. I'm a huge fan of mercury glass, and I've even been known to DIY my own. But when I saw these gorgeous hobnail mercury glass jars at my local Dollar Store recently, I knew that they were more than worth the price! I also knew that I could use them in a plethora of ways for Christmas and beyond. So today I'm sharing four different ways you can dress them up for the holidays.
Here they are, in all their sparkling glory. They also came in red and green, but I'll always remain true to the original silver. I wanted to buy more but I stopped myself at three.
After I bought them I started noticing similar jars from major retailers for a LOT more money! Okay, so what exactly did I do with them?
I found this pack of mini ornaments for a song (and a coupon, of course) at Hobby Lobby. I was in love with the colors and the sparkle.
I honestly think it was the pink that drew me in.
And here they are paired with their sparkly mercury glass counterparts. I thought they made a great match.
Mine are sitting on a sideboard in the dining room right now, but I can totally see them spaced out nicely on a beautiful Christmas runner as the Christmas dinner centerpiece!
Adding greens is a great way to up your Christmas decor game. If you're lucky enough to have some in your yard like I do then you've got it made. Pine cones also add a lovely contrast in texture and color to most Christmas displays.
Why, bottle brush trees, of course! Any color will do. I just happened to have some pink and silver ones that fit perfectly into the jars.
And here you get to see most of the sign that's been hiding in the background -- my "farmhouse" sign! I absolutely love it! You might recall that I shared my desire for one in my very first Farmhouse Friday post: Farmhouse Friday and Dining Room Renovation. It hasn't been hung permanently since I'm still working on a new approach as to how I hang wall decor -- I'll be sure to share it all in an upcoming post. So what else can we put into these jars?
Here's a truly rustic, festive way to decorate your Christmas table. Cranberries. They're inexpensive and they're red! Just perfect for Christmas decor.
Again, it's back to nature -- easy and inexpensive.
And I really do love that pop of red! I feel silly even mentioning the last way I've used my mercury glass jars -- it's so simple. Can you guess how?
Tea lights! Whoever invented battery-operated tea lights should get a medal. Seriously. The only thing better than battery-operated tea lights is remote control battery-operated tea lights -- which, sadly, I do not have. But that's okay because the traditional ones I'm using are working out just fine.
I was actually surprised at how brightly they glowed through the glass.
So simple, and coupled with greens and pine cones they're sure to create a cozy, glowing centerpiece. And no waxy mess to clean up! So to recap:

I don't have one favorite; I like them all!!! I, too, fell for the pale pink bulbs; I always have a few on my tree!'nuff to send me to the Dollar Tree here to see if they have the Mercuryt glass here! I have never used it.Congrats on 22 years with a best friend; isn't that the BEST kind of marriage?
I love the jars...thanks for the heads up! My favorite is the tea light, too...but I do love the pop of color of the cranberries!
I love Mercury glass as well. I like the different ways you styled them - my favorite is the tealights though. Nothing prettier than the glow of "candle" light shining through mercury glass!
