thrill of the hunt blog post

Welcome back, friends, to another Thrill of the Hunt -- where I share my most recent, awesome, thrifty finds. So sit back, relax and let's go!

Mary and baby Jesus Silent Night music box

This vintage porcelain music box is a Josef Original. The Mary and baby Jesus music box plays Silent Night as it spins around on its wind-up base. I had hoped to have it listed in my shop prior to Christmas but no such luck. It should be listed soon!

It's such a serene, lovely scene.

An adorable sheep looks up from Mary's feet.

It has a Made in Japan sticker and was probably manufactured in the 1950's.

The base upon which the figurine spins is made of sturdy plastic.

I'll be updating this with a link to the shop once it's been listed. In the meantime, if you're interested, feel free to leave a comment below.

Disney 101 Dalmations Christmas snow globe McDonald's Snow Flurries Happy Meal exclusive China 1996

This adorable 101 Dalmations Christmas snow globe was a McDonald's Snow Flurries Happy Meal exclusive made in China by the Disney Company in 1996. Shake it and the snow falls!

It contains a mother and father dalmation and six adorable dalmation puppies. Perfect for a Disney movie collector and/or a dalmation lover!

It appears that some of the water has evaporated over time, as is common with old snow globes. However, while perusing Ebay and the like I found people trying to sell this snow globe with NO water left in it. Hhhm.

From what I could tell it does not have much monetary value, however, for some it might just have some sentimental value!

Disney Snow White Bashful Salt and Pepper Shakers collectibles

I have started an informal salt and pepper shaker collection and these two were some of the first: Disney's Snow White kissing Bashful, one of the Seven Dwarfs.

Here's Bashful looking a wee bit creepy. I guess his expression makes sense since he's supposed to be looking up at Snow White. I'm not sure how old these are. Any ideas?

Unfortunately, much of the paint on Snow White peeled off after I got her home.

She's missing paint from her red bow.

She's also missing some blue paint from her dress. I have to say that I found it rather odd. I wouldn't have expected that to happen.

Oops, maybe someone put them in the dishwasher?

Here's what they're supposed to look like. I'm guessing the chipping paint makes them pretty much unsellable. Still a cute addition to a shaker and/or Disney collection, though.

Delft Blue Cow creamer hand painted Holland

And last but not least I have my Delft porcelain blue hand painted cow creamer made in Holland.

I picked it up at one of my local Goodwill stores.

I love the windmill scenes on the sides.

But I think I love the floral motif even more.

I do believe there's a market for her, but for now I am going to be enjoying her sitting in my vintage china hutch with glass doors.

That music box is really lovely and I love the Snow White S & Ps and cow creamer!

Sweet finds this week, Kathleen. I guess the music box is my favorite :) I find that some ceramics from about the 50's have red paint applied over the glaze, making it crazily impermanent. I've not come across the same situation with blue, however. With this kind of paint, you can only dust or VERY lightly wipe with a damp cloth. I speak from experience, LOL.

I loved all your finds this week. The music box runs close with Snow White and Bashful! I have done minor mending with red nail polish. Red is a color of glaze that does not fire well--it needs 5 coats instead of the usual 3 coats like her black hair and yellow skirt. And if it is not painted on evenly, edges show up as gray and ugly! Watch for this with handmade ceramics (orange, too). So the red and blue paint were added over the clear glaze and comes off with time. Lots of china Christmas decorations have the same problem. Red nail polish is also great to touch up red berries in floral arrangements as it dries quicker than paint! Acrylic paint with clear nail polish over it would fix the blue (unless your stash of n.p. runs to the exotic!). Sometimes chippy isn't good!
