Thrill of the Hunt #66

March 12, 2018

Happy Monday, friends! It's time for another Thrill of the Hunt, and I can't wait to share my most recent, unique vintage finds with you. From creamers to angels to reindeer -- I've got you covered!

Edwin Knowles Creamer pattern KNO389 11-45

I knew when I saw this lovely creamer at Goodwill that I had to have it, whether it was a collectible or not. I absolutely loved the floral pattern and gorgeous colors.

Turns out it was my lucky day because after a little research I found tthat it's actually an Edwin Knowles china creamer from 1945. It was really tough to find the pattern name -- there are so many different Knowles' china patterns it's unbelievable. The name? Pattern: KNO389. The maker's mark says 45-11 which means it was made in November, 1945. I scoured the internet and discovered that the creamer in this pattern is rare. Even Replacements.com does not have it.

I think the handle is exquisitely designed. I love it when the details have character.

Edwin Knowles Creamer pattern KNO389 11-45 semi-vitreous

Knowles began his semi-vitreous china company in 1901. Porcelain can range from nonvitreous, which holds the most water, to impervious, which holds very little. Semi vitreous porcelain falls somewhere in the middle. Can't you just see this being used as a farmhouse bud vase? I can! This Edwin M. Knowles vintage creamer is AVAILABLE.

Christkindl Germany figurine SCO8 1992 International Santa Claus Collection

Another Goodwill find, this Christkindl (German for Christ-Child) figurine is part of the International Santa Claus Collection created by International Resourcing Services, Inc. in 1992. Christkindl is the traditional Christmas gift-bringer in Germany and many other European countries as well as Latin America.

She's a crowned angel with wings, holding gifts in her skirt. Gifts include a doll, stuffed animal, ball, tennis racket and candy cane.

She's got a lovely gold bell at her feet.

And adorable curls.

I love the pale blue and the gold accents. Her rosy cheeks give her a child-like innocence.

The maker's mark says SC08 Christkindl Germany 1992 International Resourcing Services, Inc. Made in China. Christkindl is SOLD. She's in good company in my Etsy shop, along with some other International Santas, Father Christmas England (1992) and Welsh Father Christmas (1998).

Lefton Going to Market porcelain angel figurine 808B

So today's definitely a day for angels! Another Goodwill find I fell in love with -- an adorable Lefton "Going to Market" angel figurine featuring pink porcelain flowers and gold trim.

I learned something new looking into its background. The white ruffle with gold flecks on the bottom of her dress is called "spaghetti trim." I'm guessing it was used pretty frequently on many mid-century porcelain figurines. Her wings and hair bow are also gold.

Made as part of an angel series using mold 808B, she's carrying a gilded flower basket over her arm.

Lefton Exclusive Japan maker's mark Going to Market porcelain angel

The maker's mark on the bottom reads: Going To Market, Lefton China, Hand Painted 808B with a picture of a crown. The original foil sticker on the bottom reads: Lefton Exclusive Japan. I believe this means she was made between 1946 and 1953. After this picture was taken I managed to clean up the bottom so that it looks a bit cleaner. Some wear and tear is inevitable with most of these mid-century pieces, but I do try to clean them up as best I can. Vintage Lefton China Angel Figurine is SOLD.

Inarco porcelain Christmas reindeer holly gold bell

I picked up this vintage porcelain Inarco reindeer at an estate sale. I shared it with you once in Thrill of the Hunt #38 but now finally have it listed in my Etsy shop so I wanted to share it again for those of you who either never saw it or don't remember it. Honestly, this is a piece that I struggled with putting up for sale. I love it!

Inarco porcelain Christmas reindeer holly gold bell

Inarco stands for International Artware Corporation.  An American company founded in 1960, Inarco hailed out of Cleveland, Ohio. The figurines were designed in the U.S. and then manufactured in Japan.

Inarco was purchased by Napco in 1986. Therefore, although I don't know this reindeer's exact age, it has to have been manufactured between 1960 and 1986, making it anywhere from 32 to 58 years old.

The black and gold foil sticker on the bottom says "Inarco" on top of a globe with the word "Japan" underneath. It also says E-229/L.  Inarco porcelain reindeer is SOLD.

Enjoyed your finds. Thank you for the history; I love learning these tidbits. I love making little silk flower arrangments in creamers and sugarers picking up on the colors on them.
