Simple Summer Purse Wreath

May 24, 2018

Today I'm sharing how to make a simple summer purse wreath.

Today’s DIY is so simple to achieve that you’ll probably be calling me a DIY imposter by the time I’m through here. My simple summer purse wreath is not only easy to make, but it’s inexpensive as well. All you need is an old straw purse, a ribbon (optional) and some faux flowers.

I'm sharing my simple summer purse wreath as part of a monthly Thrift Store Challenge I participate in with a group of like-minded bloggers who appreciate a good thrift store find as much as I do!

The Rules:
  • Upcycle an item(s) from a thrift store, resale store, or garage sale into a new piece of decor.

  • There's no monthly theme.

  • There's no budget to stick to.

mini straw tote leather handles

I started out with a Salvation Army $1.99 straw summer purse with leather handles. I thought it was exceptionally cute, and the price was just right.

First I hid the front leather handle by putting it inside the purse. I then placed two "bouquets" of faux flowers I got from Michael's into it, and then hung it on the inside of the front door.

handmade burlap bow

Since you could still see the white magnet hanger it was hanging from I decided to spruce it up with a burlap bow I made myself from a roll of burlap ribbon I had on hand.

I thought the bow added a nice touch.

After hanging it on the door I realized that I had the perfect hook for it in the living room.

We actually put the hook up there to hang a new addition to my French farmhouse living room, to be announced at a later date. But I knew the straw purse wreath would also look good there for the time being.

I purposely did not add the burlap bow to it since I wanted the vintage-inspired wrought iron hook to be visible.

I'm thrilled with how it turned out. And the best part? When I get tired of it I can take the flowers out and still use it as a purse! That's what I call a win-win.

And now for more thrifty goodness! Check out what my fellow upcyclers have created below.

Well, that's it for today, friends!

And that's exactly what I'm saying..."why didn't I think of that?" It's so cute Kathleen and I have a purse here I can do that with, and some Dollar Store flowers! I think I'm going to "steal" it!
