Red Arrow Highway Junkin Trip

Red Arrow Highway Junkin Trip Michigan lower peninsula bike basket flowers balloons
Since moving to the Chicago suburbs over 14 years ago I've discovered a great area along the lower western edge of Michigan that harbors a treasure trove of quaint little antique and vintage shops. Most recently I managed to squeeze in a visit to a few shops in this area during one of our daughter's college visits. It had been a while since I'd perused these places, so I was very happy to get the chance to reaquaint myself with a few old friends.

Lakeside Antiques Michigan brick antique store

We started out at Lakeside Antiques in Lakeside, Michigan -- a lovely, two-building set-up with more than enough junk for just about any serious junker.

The main building welcomed us with this lovely sign. Too bad it wasn't for sale. If it were I would have bought it myself. The second building housed a bit more upscale vintage merchandise. We thoroughly enjoyed taking our time while exploring both buildings. We also visited the Sawyer Antique Mall and Harbert Antique Mall the next day on our way home. Sorry, no pictures of those beauties.

Since it's been so long since my last real junkin trip, I think I went nuts with the photos. But I did try to categorize most of them to make it a bit easier on the eyes.

Vintage Pottery

Chandeliers

vintage antique crystal chandelier

I love vintage chandeliers.

Mirrors

vintage gilded sconce mirror

There were mirrors galore, both big and small. This one is actually a sconce as well.

vintage gilded full length mirror

I absolutely loved this full length gilded beauty.

Luggage

Vintage Signs

Tins

Textiles

vintage plaid stadium blankets fringe

We had wool stadium blankets like these when I was growing up. They also had some vintage Pendleton blankets -- WAY out of my price range!

vintage linens tablecloth tea towels

Pretty vintage fabric.

vintage tea towels calendar tapestry

Vintage tea towels. I remember my mom having a calendar one.

Favorites

vintage Italian hand-carved marble top console table set

There were also a few items that I just truly fell in love with, starting with these vintage marble-topped tables.

I did not, however, love the price tag.

vintage wooden kneeler prie Dieu altar prayer

I was also quite enamored of this piece -- I think it was some kind of church kneeler, perhaps even the kind that used to be placed at the altar, like a prie Dieu or prayer kneeler.

vintage galvanized sink on wheels

This galvanized farmhouse tub on wheels is a real dream come true for me.

vintage claw foot tub

And I would most definitely love to put this in our master bath!

And that's just the tip of the iceberg! It really was great to get out there and flex some junkin' muscle -- and for all that "shopping" I was actually quite restrained. I only came home with two small items, one of which I recently shared with you in Thrill of the Hunt #74. I'll be sharing the other find in an upcoming post.

Well, that's it until next time, friends!

I love our sweet trips to Michigan along the lake too. I will have to check out this town and see if it is on our route when we go.

Have you been to Three Oaks and then travel a little farther north to Hudsonville where the Found Cottage Shop is and then about 5 more shops in Jensen they are near Grand Rapids and there is Saugatuck, Holland etc. There are very cute towns and shops.

Have a great new week.

I went to the big Canton First Monday Trade Days but there weren't many vendors...August is so hot most don't come. Sadly I didn't find anything but I did enjoy looking around for a couple of hours. It really is one of my most favorite places to go. Would love to be able to go up north and look in those shops!

Looks like it was a great trip. Someday I want to take my blood pressure before and after antiquing--even if I don't buy anything--I bet it goes down 10 points!
