Welcome, friends, to another fun-filled Thrill of the Hunt post where I share my latest thrifty (and mostly) vintage finds with you. I'm excited to get started so here goes!
Three cheers for the seasonal pop-up estate sale that I absolutely love -- and can not wait for -- that "popped up" the first week in April. Per usual, I came away with some really great finds that I was thrilled to have scored. But before I show you the goods I want to show you the place. I've talked about it on the blog for a few years now but never really got into any detail. So here it is.
Don't you just love it? Heck, I want that sign. It's held in what was once a small convenience store situated on the side of a somewhat major road in town. "The Little Store" went out of business a few years ago and then it just sat vacant. Happily, someone with an entrepreneurial spirit decided to use the space periodically as an estate sale haven. And I've been reaping the benefits ever since.
First up is a lovely potted faux herb plant encased in a mini-cloche.
Ironically, I bought the tall boxwood topiary behind the cloche from the same Little Store a few years ago.
I have to be honest and admit that when I first saw it I thought the plant was alive and wondered if I could keep it that way with my brown thumb. Doesn't it look real?
Gotta love the stamped tin tag that just says "Herb."
It is just so lifelike and I absolutely love it! It was $5.00 which is a splurge for me for something like this but I know I'll be happy with it for a long time.
I truly did a happy dance when I came upon this tall, chippy, shabby farmhouse candlestick. Another $5.00 purchase.
I love adding moss ball accents to vintage candlesticks.
The distressing was perfect.
And at 20 inches tall, it stands in a grand way wherever I place it.
Last but not least is a vintage, lidded ironstone bowl/soup tureen.
It was manufactured by a company called Knowles, Taylor & Knowles in East Liverpool, Ohio. They made pottery from 1854 to 1931. The makers mark stamped on the bottom says K. T. & K. S -V (semi-vitreous) China R.D.G.. (I have yet to figure out what the R.D.G. stands for.) So at its youngest it would be 88 years old!
I paid all of $5.00 for it. Through my research I've discovered that its probably worth around $15.00 or more. But I'm not selling it! For how old it is I was surprised to learn how little it's actually worth. I guess there must be a lot of Knowles, Taylor & Knowles china pieces still around so the price is relatively low.
I love the feminine, delicate lines of this pattern.
Here it is with a small vintage dish (thrift store find) that I'll be sharing in a later post.
Well, that's it for today, friends!
I hope I've inspired you in some way and that
you've enjoyed reading Thrill of the Hunt #86!
