Vintage Charm Bracelet Thrift Store Upcycle

July 25, 2019

Welcome to a new monthly Thrift Store Challenge where my friends and I challenge each other to transform thrift store finds into something different, better and useful. While it isn't actual decor, this month I'm sharing a vintage charm bracelet that I created with thrift store and vintage finds.

The Rules:

  • Upcycle an item(s) from a thrift store, resale store, or garage sale into a new piece of decor.
  • There's no monthly theme.
  • There's no budget to stick to.

Meet the Hosts

Make sure you follow our board on Pinterest for more upcycled decor inspiration!

I used to have an Etsy shop where I sold handmade vintage jewelry. The shop went over quite well, but I eventually grew tired of making jewelry and moved on to spending time doing other DIY projects, including many home decor projects like I share with you each week. But lately I've been missing all the fun and satisfaction I got from creating one-of-a-kind vintage jewelry designs. Perhaps I'll begin again?

These charms are an eclectic mix of thrift store, antiques store, estate sale and barn sale finds. Above you can see a vintage crucifix, vintage St. Jude medal and a vintage 1988 Michigan Regional Boys Track A-LP 2nd Place Long Jump medal I picked up in an antique store in Indiana.

I absolutely fell in love with this flea market find -- a vintage "Republique Francaise" gold tone button turned charm.

A large vintage fleur-de-lis earring was turned into a charm, along with a St. Anthony medal.

My creations are known for their mixed metals and eclectic mix of "charms," punctuated by many religious medals and faceted glass beads. What do you think?

I also create vintage necklaces. This one, with Saint Therese of Lisieux, is a favorite of mine that sold a few years ago. This has all made me want to get back into jewelry making even more. So don't be surprised if I pick it back up real soon!

Well, that's it until next time, friends!

This is so pretty. I love charm bracelets and the vintage charms are so fun. When I was young I used to collect charms from the places I traveled to and my interests. I still have that one.

I truly enjoy wearing bracelets now that I am retired--especially clunky, summertime colored stuff. I looked at every detail of your buttons/charms and really enjoyed it. I personally love the mix of metal colors so it can go with other jewelry you are wearing--not all silver, all gold, etc. Hope you get back to jewelry making--great wintertime project, too!

I purchased one of your charm bracelets a while back and I love it! I hope you do start selling jewelry again.
