One thing I love about Christmas decorating is that you get to bring the outdoors in. From the Christmas tree, to garlands, to swags, to wreaths -- these natural elements can literally become the foundation of your decor. And with all the fabulous faux greenery that's out there today you can certainly use that, too! This year I'm using my vintage wooden tool caddy as a Christmas centerpiece on my farmhouse kitchen table. Stick around and I'll show you just how I did it and what I used to achieve the look.
While I cut greenery out in the yard for some indoor Christmas displays, I chose to use faux greenery for this particular Christmas centerpiece. It all started with a flocked garland. I used it as the base of the arrangement by folding it over onto itself until it fit into my vintage tool caddy.
It was a simple garland with only pine cones as adornment.
One trick I use is to incorporate other garlands into the centerpiece as well. Here you can see my eucalyptus leaf garland poking up in the back.
I also added in some lamb's ear picks with white berries on them.
As well as some red berry picks I had in my stash.
Flocking didn't used to be on my radar but this year it was front and center on my wish list.
I also added in some juniper sprig picks for some more sparkle and color contrast. I love those blue juniper berries!
I placed three LED remote control candles right in the center, along with some flashing fairy lights interspersed throughout.
I love how the whole arrangement looks sitting on my black and white buffalo check table runner.
Even thought it was daytime I fired up the candles and fairy lights so you could see how pretty it all looks together.
A few years ago I came up with this Simple Rustic Christmas Centerpiece. Instead of the vintage tool box I used a faux vintage dough bowl. (This was back when my blog was still called Charm Bracelet Diva {At Home}.)
I just used some evergreen sprigs and pine cones from the yard along with some red berry picks I already had. For more detail visit Simple Rustic Christmas Centerpiece.
In previous years I've used the toolbox in other areas around the house. This year it's on the kitchen table, but in the past I've also displayed it on the coffee table in the living room as shown above. Drop by Natural Christmas Styling: Vintage Wooden Tool Box With Fresh Evergreens and see how I styled this one with all fresh greens from our own yard.
So to recap:
- For easy and inexpensive Christmas centerpiece ideas, use natural elements gathered from your own yard as well as any Christmas accessories you're fond of (glass ornaments, flower picks, anything with a pop of color)
- If you don't have any fresh greens readily available, go for faux -- they're not free but at least you can use them again and again over the years, as opposed to fresh ones that will inevitably have to be thrown away.
- Think outside the box when it comes to containers for your centerpieces. The less mainstream the better. Try vintage toolboxes, old buckets, bottles and jars.
I've even used holiday greens and vintage minnow buckets! So I guess what I'm saying is that the sky's the limit. Don't be afraid to use your imagination and do something different this year!

Beautiful Kathleen. I love those flickering candles that look like real flames. I love that they have timers in them too. Your center piece idea is so pretty. Have a great rest of this fast paced week.
Hugs,
Kris
Loved your ideas for centerpieces. Wish my yard had more greenery than just plain old pine trees! At least my faux stuff doesn't shed and dry out! Merry Christmas to you and yours!
