Farmhouse Christmas Red Tobacco Basket

Mass produced reproduction tobacco baskets have been a part of farmhouse decor for at least a few years now. I love decorating with them. For Christmas I decided to create a red tobacco basket that would add some farmhouse style to my Christmas decor. It was easy and inexpensive -- all you need is a tobacco basket, some acrylic paint and a few Christmas tchotchkes for decoration. So let's get started.

I forgot to take a true "before" picture of this Target Bullseye Playground tobacco basket before I started painting. Here it is, though, after I remembered to take one!

Here it is after I finished painting the whole thing red. The color I used was Tuscan Red. I compared a number of red paints before buying one because I wanted a shade of red that reminded me of Christmas. I think I succeeded with this one.

My original plan was to use some faux greens, a bottle brush tree, a Believe sign and a black and white checked bow. Here are the pieces laid out in preparation. It's always good to play around with styling before committing to a particular design. But the more I looked at it, the more I couldn't decide if I liked it or not.

Ultimately I ended up going with more of a minimalist approach -- one I like better because the simple black and white allows the red to really pop. Which is what I was going for in the first place.

Greenery was ultimately added in the form of the wreath it's hanging from, as well as the mini farmhouse cypress trees placed on either side. I frequently hang baskets (and wreaths) on my farmhouse ladder with metal hooks,

I was very excited to introduce buffalo check into my decor this Christmas, and these oversized farmhouse buffalo check ornaments did not disappoint.

I may still add a big old buffalo check bow to the top of the hoop wreath. I'm also planning on adding in some fresh greens from the yard but not yet. It's too early -- they'll be all dried out before Christmas. In a week or so I'll be bringing in a ton of greens to place all around the house.

Overall I'm really happy with my pop of Christmas red over the fireplace!

Well, that's it for today, friends!
