Our Hopeful Home: Copycat Lemon And Eucalyptus Candle Centerpiece

Let me start off by saying that I love Kirkland's. Always have, always will. But as a DIY home decor blogger there are certain things they, and others, sell that I KNOW I can make for less! Case in point: I fell in love with Kirkland's Lemon and Eucalyptus Candle Centerpiece, just not with the price tag ($54.99). I knew I had the ways and means for a DIY version so this spring blog hop challenge was the perfect opportunity for me to go ahead and just do it.

While I didn't use glass hurricanes for my version, I still used candles -- the LED kind. They're versatile and so easy to use -- just set them to turn on at any given moment and they'll turn off 6 hours later. It's like magic, I kid you not. I have these things set up all over my house.

My faux greens are a mix of lamb's ear and eucalyptus. I got the faux lemons at Goodwill a few years ago. You can also get faux lemons at Dollar Tree in packs of three for a dollar.

The new centerpiece replaced the ironstone pitcher with faux tulips I created when I put together my Modern Farmhouse Living Room Spring Refresh.

While I still love that arrangement (now sitting on our farmhouse kitchen sideboard), I'm happy with the lemons for now. Also, they go perfectly with my newly decorated spring dining room!

I wish I could get a good picture of this centerpiece while the candles are lit. I had to turn on a lamp just to get this one. You can't really tell so much here but I swear that when the candles are the only light in the room they create a super warm and cozy glow.

How To Make A Copycat Lemon And Eucalyptus Centerpiece

1. Start with your vessel. In my case it was a vintage wooden tool box. Wooden dough bowls would work equally as well.

2. Depending on the depth of your vessel, you might need to find something around the house to add height to the arrangement. I used 3 upside down tupperware containers. Clearly no need to be fancy since no one will see.

Yup, I used this too.

3. It turned out I needed even more inserts to get the candles to the right height, so I added two more items on top of the tupperware: a Kraft Macaroni & Cheese box -- can you tell I have teenagers lol (like I said, no one's gonna see it!) and a wooden cutting board on top of that. Again, it all depends on the size and shape of your container as well as the height of your candles and how much greenery you have to work with. You can also use floral foam if you prefer. I just didn't have enough on hand and wasn't going to go out to shop for it. Plus using what you already have is resourceful and saves money!

4. Once your risers are inserted and your candles are placed where you want them, it's time to add some greenery.

5. I started by loosely wrapping my eucalyptus garland around the candle arrangement inside the toolbox. I got the garland from Hobby Lobby for 50% off last year.

6. Continue adding whatever greens you have on hand, layering as you go. I used faux juniper berry sprigs as well as leafy greens with white berries and plain lambs ear picks. I love the glitter/sparkly effect on some of the leaves. So pretty!

Those lemons do add such a fabulous pop of color.

And here's the final product. So spring-y with those brightly colored lemons added! I love it. And I made it for way less than $54.99. It felt really good to create this centerpiece -- I haven't attempted a copycat DIY project in what seems like a really long time. So thank you, Cecilia, for bringing me into this spring nesting blog hop fold. It got my creative juices flowing and now I get the benefits of seeing this bright and cheerful centerpiece in my spring farmhouse living room every day!
