I've never decorated a "themed" Christmas tree in my life, but this year changed all that. So what's the theme, you ask? Farmhouse Christmas. Lucky for me, Dollar Tree and Wal-Mart were thinking along the same lines! I really can't get over how they rose to the occasion this year and hit it out of the ballpark with their affordable farmhouse Christmas tree ornaments.
I started with this black and white buffalo check crinkle ribbon from Big
Lots for $8. The roll is 18 feet long by 4.9 inches wide. I planned to use
it for my farmhouse Christmas tree garland. No one else sells this that I
can find. If you can't get any from Big Lots, Amazon has some pretty wide
wired black and white buffalo check Christmas ribbon
you can use as a substitute.
And surely, what is more quintessentially farmhouse Christmas than buffalo check? Then Dollar Tree and Wal-Mart really surprised me this year with a boat load of buffalo check Christmas tree ornaments, as well as some other rustic farmhouse-style ornaments.
First off, let me say that I decided early on that my farmhouse Christmas
tree would not only have buffalo check, but that it would also have pops of
red and silver. Because who says a farmhouse Christmas tree can't also have
a little bit of glam? Honestly, I just thought the color combo would be
pretty. You can't tell from this photo that these two Dollar Tree ornaments are
seriously extra large. I wanted some of the ornaments to make a big impact
so these were perfect for that.
Dollar Tree also had some smaller, glittery, red and silver balls that I thought might make a nice addition to the mix.
Dollar Tree has a whole line of red and black buffalo check ornaments this
year. Run, don't walk. Seriously. I swear their stuff is becoming almost
indistinguishable from the craft and hobby stores' much higher priced
ornaments.
I instantly fell in love with the round ball, as well as the detail on each
of these ornaments -- burlap and greens with a pine cone and red berries.
Here's the red and black buffalo check in the shape of a Christmas tree.
And here's one more red and black check ornament with burlap, greens, a pine cone and berry embellishments. I do think those little touches make all the difference, and really add to their farmhouse look.
I also wanted to add some bright white ornaments into the mix. This snowy pine
tree really spoke to me. And an added bonus: they sell in sets of two
for one dollar.
And this over-sized silver glitter snowflake -- wow! Talk about a statement ornament. And just a tip: large ornaments are great for filling in any sparse spaces throughout the tree.
White ornament number three is this 3-D white star ornament. It is also sold in sets of two for one dollar.
The last white ornament adds a lovely, rustic vibe to the tree. It's a white felt ball wrapped in twigs. I had actually planned on DIY-ing a similar ornament this year but after finding these I changed my mind.
Last but not least of the Dollar Tree ornaments is another rustic, woodland-like ornament (which, by the way, I think fits a farmhouse theme really well). It's a brown, almost kraft paper-like pine cone dusted with "snow" and some more of those greens, berries and pine cones as embellishments on top.
Here's the first of the Wal-Mart ornaments. While they're not one dollar, they are $1.98. Still uber affordable. This wreath ornament jumped out at me due to its red and white checked material. Farmhouse for sure.
This faux fur wreath really caught my eye. The picture doesn't do it justice. It's bright white with a darling bottle brush tree and burlap wreath embellishment.
I have to say that this was one of my absolute favorites, hands down. We've all seen the "Farm Fresh" Christmas Tree signs, and this is a darling miniature of that. Again, super-farmhouse decor.
I was really excited when I found these rusty bell and pine sprig clips in the bottom of a box of ornaments. The rusty patina could not create a more perfect farmhouse effect. And the red berries add to the color pop on the tree.
Embroidery hoop wreaths have become a huge thing over the past few years. Now we have embroidery hoop Christmas ornaments! I have to say that I'm a huge fan after finding these farmhouse pick-up truck hoop ornaments bearing a farmhouse graphic with greens and bells! Bells have become a big part of my farmhouse Christmas theme so I really was happy to find these ornaments.
I am super excited to share how I actually decorated that farmhouse Christmas tree. Stay tuned -- I'll be sharing it with you soon! In the meantime, hopefully you can get to your local Dollar Tree and Wal-Mart to check out their farmhouse ornaments. And if farmhouse isn't your thing, both stores have many other types of Christmas ornaments at great, affordable prices.
If you can't find these ornaments at Dollar Tree or Wal-Mart you can also shop online from the comfort of your own home for some of these farmhouse Christmas ornaments:
