Today I'm sharing my latest Thrill of the Hunt thrifty finds. Care to join?
Welcome, friends, to another fun-filled Thrill of the Hunt where
I share my latest thrifty (and usually) vintage finds with you. My
hope is that by sharing my thrifty finds I can motivate and inspire you to
explore your own area thrift stores, estate sales, flea markets and barn
sales while making your own fabulous finds for yourself.
Today it's all about plates from Portugal, rustic Impasto paintings and candlesticks - so let's get started.
A few weeks ago I fell in love with this Portugese lattice cut edge plate in Goodwill.
It fits in so well with my growing collection of blue and white china pieces.
The maker's mark says RC & CAL Juncal Porto de Mos, Hand Painted, Made in Portugal. This would look gorgeous on a plate wall, don't you think?
Like I always say, you can never have too many brass candlesticks. Um, yes, you can, actually. I was just trying to make myself feel better for having bought a few more for my collection! But at least they weren't expensive and are easy to store. These very traditional classic brass candlesticks were 99 cents each at Goodwill.
This set, with one taller than the other, was also from Goodwill for $1.99 each. They're from the Party Lite line of candle accessories.
It's nice to have varying heights to give your candle displays a bit more visual interest.
I love the look of classic white tapers in brass candlesticks. I get my candles at Dollar Tree, of course.
When I saw these little crystal things next to the candlesticks I thought they were candlesticks, too.
And for 25 cents each I thought why not?
Once I got them home I did a little research and I think they're actually crystal toothpick holders. Not exactly what I was looking for. But the candles fit! So score.
Last but not least I just had to share this thrift store score! I have been wanting a rustic church painting like this one for a long time, but did not want to pay the prices I was seeing online and in stores for similar paintings.
I had even admired this very painting at Kirkland's but left the store empty-handed due to the price. While theirs was the most affordable I had seen, it was still $22.99 and I just couldn't justify the splurge due to the fact that, as always, it was a want, not a need. Goodwill, however, was selling it for $4.99. I was ecstatic.
It's one of a line of paintings they sold by the artist Samantha Miller. I know it's now out of stock.
I wasn't sure what it was that really drew me in to this painting. I later learned it was painted with the Impasto technique. It makes it look like the art is standing out from the surface, almost 3-D-like. Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Jackson Pollock and Willem de Koonig all used this technique. I love it!
I also love the rustic wood hanger pieces on the top and the bottom of the canvas. So much better than a regular frame in my opinion. What do you think? Are you a fan of the Impasto technique?

I love this painting so much, what a find! I am taking painting classes thru this folk artist and we just painted a church. I love the art and shape of the church, I am noting to try to replicate my version of this.
Great finds, Kathleen! That plate from Portugal fits right in with your collection, and I love the church painting! I have a few of those crystal toothpick holder and frequently use them for bud vases!

Some really great finds . . that church painting is by far my favorite! Wow - I love that so much!! Now you've made me want to find something like that for MYSELF! My greatest 'find' was a week ago but this was on our local "Free" site: An air fryer, a new hand mixer, a set of aluminum bowls, a brand new crockpot, 4 lidded casserole dishes in the matching baskets and a set of metal strainers . . . all from ONE house.
Love the blue plate--has a very Delft-like look to it. I had never heard the term "impasto" before so that's my new vocab word for the day! I can see you using it as a background for Easter and Christmas vignettes! I thought the crystal "candlesticks" were toothpick holders, too; but, then, around here, shot glasses have been bud vases and egg cups! Eye of the beholder!
