Vintage Pressed Tin Farmhouse Shelf From Barn Sale

July 17, 2021

Today I'm sharing a vintage pressed tin farmhouse shelf. I picked it up at --  of all places -- a farm! A barn sale, to be exact. Sometimes the simplest of things makes us the most happy.

I've blogged about my favorite local barn sale before. It's literally right up the road from my house and it takes place twice a year. However, it's not advertised! So stumbling upon it is like a small slice of heaven.

Immediately upon arrival I spied something with chippy-looking white paint, so of course I had to stop and investigate. I was thrilled that it was a really long, vintage, pressed tin farmhouse shelf. I was expecting a high price tag but it was only $15.00. Score. So I happily brought it home. And it sat. And it sat. And it sat.

I knew where I wanted it hung, but hanging things is not one of Mr. OHH's favorite things to do. And based on past experience I refrain from hanging things myself lest I end up wrecking the walls. So it sat some more.

Lucky for me, Mr. OHH recently took on the project of hanging it up in our family room over the wide-screen t.v.  This is the before picture. Sorry, the lighting was wonky. You'll notice the huge blank space between the flat screen t.v and wreath around Bessie the cow's head. It was prime for a shelf! You can see Riley, my photo assistant, on the couch. The wall paint color is, well, awful. It's original to the house. The room is huge with vaulted ceilings so to have it painted would be very expensive. Sigh.

You can see the vintage tin shelf leaning up against the wall to the right of the t.v. I wasn't good at getting close-ups of the shelf before it was hung. My bad.

One of the things I loved about it was that it was so long! Also, it had that chippy, shabby look I love. Finally, it was really lightweight and came with hanging hardware on the back.

Here it is, hung up over the t.v..

I absolutely fell in love with the detail of this pressed tin shelf.

While the front is tin, the top is wood.

I had fun decorating the shelf with some of my favorite farmhouse decor. You can't go wrong with tobacco baskets and enamelware pitchers. I also added faux flowers and greens as well as a vase covered in rattan for added texture.

I think my barn sale tin shelf was the perfect thing to fill the empty wall space above the t.v..  And it was definitely worth the wait. I'm looking forward to changing out the decor with the seasons and holidays. I'm already thinking about fall . . . . . I know, call me crazy!
