DIY Starbucks Iced Passion Tango Herbal Tea Refresher

May 23, 2022

I've got a secret. While Starbucks has once again added their refreshing Iced Passion Tango Herbal Tea Refresher to their summer menu, it's a drink I drink all year long. No, I'm not rich. I make it myself in the comfort of my own kitchen. And that's what I'm sharing with you today: my recipe for a DIY Starbucks Passion Tango Herbal Tea Refresher. Yum.

On those rare occasions when I find myself in the drive-through at my local Starbucks, I order one thing and one thing only: a Passion Tango Tea Refresher. According to their menu, it's a decaffeinated herbal tea blended with hibiscus, lemongrass and apple. While Starbucks touts it as a summer menu item, here's a tip -- you can order it year round!

I order a Grande (16 oz.) Passion Tango Tea Refresher and customize it by adding two pumps of sugar free vanilla and a splash of coconut milk. I repeat: I order a Grande (16 oz.) Passion Tango Tea Refresher and customize it by adding two pumps of sugar free vanilla and a splash of coconut milk.

While you can just order the tea as is (or mixed with lemonade), I prefer my special mix of tea, vanilla and coconut milk. It loses none of its refreshing qualities by adding the extras. And wait -- those extra fancy touches? They're free!

But hey, we all know that Starbucks can be super expensive, so I only buy my Passion Tango Tea Refresher in-store maybe three times a year. And what do I do the rest of the year? I make it in the comfort of my own home!

The Tazo Iced Passion Herbal Tea concentrate that I use lists their decaffeinated tea as a blend of hibiscus, orange peel, rose hips and passion fruit flowers.

While the Starbucks version of Passion Tango Herbal Tea Refresher has 0 calories (they probably make it with iced passion tango tea bags rather than concentrate), my DIY version has 60 calories per 12 ounces. (Sugar-free vanilla syrup has 0 calories, and while a cup of coconut milk has 40 calories, a splash of coconut milk amounts to 0 calories in my book!)

A small price to pay for saving a ton of money and being able to make it in the comfort of your own home.

Another alternative is to buy it in bottled form (42 ounces). Talk about convenient! This one isn't as cheap as making it yourself, and it does have 70 calories per 12 ounces, but it tastes delicious and is absolutely cheaper than buying it at Starbucks.

And for you Keurig fans, they also make iced passion tango tea K-cups! How cool is that?

I too am not a Starbuck's "fan" . . . my indulgence of choice is the mocha frappuccino (sp??) and I have a copycat recipe for that at home. I love fruity iced teas in the summer so I will definitely be trying this! Love your additions which makes this an even more special treat!
