Today I'm sharing how I easily transformed a simple winter church painting
into Christmas wall art.

Christmas decor doesn't have to be super-complicated -- or even showy for
that matter. It can be super simple, yet still create the same warm and
festive effect we all love to provide for our family and friends during the
holidays. And better yet -- it can be created with things we already have
around the house.
I shared this beautiful thrifted impasto church painting in
Thrill of the Hunt #112 (where I explain the impasto painting technique).
Then recently, when I saw this "Holiday Church Wall Art" painting, I had an epiphany. It looked an awful lot like
my impasto church painting, sans Christmas wreath.
Hmmm.
I was reminded of these mini bottle brush wreaths with red satin bows I had in my crafting stash. I knew they would
complement my painting perfectly.
I was thinking particularly of this round window above the door. It was
just the perfect place for a Christmas wreath.
And how about that lonely window at the top of the steeple?
It was as simple as using the Fun-Tak to adhere one bottle brush wreath over
the round window and one bottle brush wreath over the steeple
window.
My Fun-Tak happened to be blue and worked out okay, but white Fun-Tak would
have been my first choice if I had had it on hand.
But don't the wreaths look just perfect, like they've been there all
along?
I love that the bottle brush wreaths add even more of a 3-D effect to the
impasto painting.
And of course I displayed the Christmas church wall art along with some
bottle brush trees on either side!
I truly love the way it turned out. And after Christmas, all I have to do
is remove the wreaths for more of an everyday/winter art vibe -- until next
Christmas, that is!
Just goes to show that with a little imagination you can turn an otherwise
run of the mill piece of decor into a temporary Christmas decoration.
Well, that's it for today, friends!

ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome idea!! I just love it. Do you have any ideas where to get a church painting like yours'?
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing how one little touch like the wreaths can make a big difference and your church painting can be fun for Christmas.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week.
What a great idea! I love BBT and wreathes; I envied you your stash of wreathes! I made a bunch of wreathe ornaments (from Adirondack Girl at Heart) on jute webbing and burlap ribbon using BBwreathes, thick green pipe cleaner wreathes, rounds of wired leaves with yarn or ribbon bows; they sell well at our church bazaar and in my booth. I had a Monet print of water lilies that I added a applique flamingo to; I enjoy my slightly warped sense of humor! Kathy A
