Thrill of the Hunt #131: Blue and White Series #4

Welcome, friends, to another fun-filled Thrill of the Hunt post where I share my latest thrifty (and usually) vintage finds with you.

My hope is that by sharing my thrifty finds I can motivate and inspire you to explore your own local thrift stores, estate sales, flea markets and barn sales and make your own fabulous finds for yourself. So let's get started.

Normally I share pretty much random items that I've recently acquired through my thrifting travels. But I recently began highlighting the most lovely blue and white porcelain pieces I've been lucky enough to either be gifted or find over the past few months. Welcome to #4 in the series!

The collection is large, so we're now at installment #4 in the series. If you missed the first three installments, you can go back and review Thrill of the Hunt #128Thrill of the Hunt #129 and Thrill of the Hunt #130.

chinoiserie salt and pepper shakers set

I picked up these blue and white porcelain salt and pepper shakers at a local vintage wares co-op. They were $14.00 for the set -- which is a bit pricey for me -- but I had a gift certificate to spend.

I fell in love with their vibrant blue color and delicate illustrations.

There was no maker's mark. I haven't decided on whether I'll use them or put them on display. Either way I love them.

three porcelain pinch cups

Next up is a darling set of three porcelain pinch cups my daughter picked up for me at Goodwill.

While not chinoiserie per se, the blue and white pattern mimics it nonetheless.

They would be perfect for dipping sauces!

chinoiserie salt cellar spoon

Can you guess what this is?

It came with a spoon and was made in Japan.

It's the latest addition to my salt cellar collection. I got it at a local estate sale for just a few dollars.

Chinoiserie collector that I am, I never thought I'd find a salt cellar like this!

I love the gold detailing on the lid.

I also love the detailed chinoiserie scenes that are painted all the way around it.

It's getting to the point where I might be able to set a pretty table with some of my blue and white pieces. Nothing actually matches, but that's the way I like it -- eclectic. Once I'm done with the series maybe I'll give it a go!

Well, that's it for today, friends!

I hope you've enjoyed reading

  1. I love your blue & white finds, Kathleen. The pinch cups are awesome, and look great with square bowl you pictured behind them that has the Greek key border on it. The salt cellar is a fab find too! Just since downsizing have I started incorpating the always loved blue & whites into my own decor. I have found some great pieces, just hope I can curb my own enthusiasm!

  3. Loved all of your finds as I love B & W, too. That salt cellar looks like it would be great for Chinese hot mustard--caz that tiny spoonful is about all that I would need! I put a motley collection of B & W plates up on the soffet over my kitchen cabinets and never tire of looking at them! Kathy A
