Today I'm sharing some recent Dollar Tree seasonal summer finds.

I’ve heard that some people are mosquito magnets. If that’s true then I’m one of them. And believe me when I say I’ve had more lovely summer evenings ruined by mosquitos than I can count. 

While my dream of a screened in porch has yet to materialize, I decided to tackle mosquitos head on this summer with everything I’ve got.

One way is with these cintronella incense sticks from Dollar Tree. (Ironically, I noticed they spelled incense wrong.) 

I place the incense sticks inside my potted plants (this plant is rosemary, which is supposed to repel mosquitos as well) and light them. They burn for about an hour or so depending on the breeze, if any. If they're not done burning when I'm ready to go inside, I just turn them upside down and stick them into the dirt to make sure the fire goes out. Next time, I pull them out of the dirt, brush them off, and light them up again for continued protection!

I also bought and use their mosquito repelling coils. 

While the coils come with their own metal stand, I still place the stand on a thick glass plate (that I picked up at Goodwill) so as not to burn the table and keep the ashy mess in check.

So far I've been very pleased with the protection afforded me by these Dollar Tree insect repellants.

Another great Dollar Tree summer find this year was a needle point pruner garden snipper. While I do have other heavy-duty garden shears for tough jobs, I’ve found these dainty sharp snippers to be just perfect for cutting fresh flowers from the yard. 

I started using them on our lilac bushes. 

Once the lilacs stopped blooming I've been using the needle point pruner on my peony bushes. They're also great for cutting away the extra green foliage attached to each stem. 

I like to use my vintage farmhouse wooden trug  to collect cut flowers from the garden.

I've shared these arm saving gardening gloves, (along with some others), as some of my favorite gardening accessories. They really help protect my arms, as well as my hands, from prickly plants and branches, and keep my arms from breaking out into a rash after a day of heavy gardening.

Another fun summer find was this two-pack of magnetic hooks. (They're currently out of stock at Dollar Tree online but I found these similar ones on Amazon: Heavy Duty Magnetic Hooks.)

As soon as I saw them I knew what I wanted them for.

They're perfect for hanging my outdoor lights on the patio! Our patio pergola is made of metal so I knew it would be a great surface for magnets. And I knew that would help greatly with hanging the lights all along the top of the pergola frame. So I bought a bunch of two-packs of hanging magnets.

NOTE: They'd also be great for hanging grilling utensils on the side of the grill or on the inside of the grill doors.

Speaking of patio lights, I've been having fun experimenting with various types of outdoor lights recently. My current faves are warm white curtain lights by Better Homes and Garden for Wal-Mart. But they're not solar powered, nor do they have a remote. Hindsight is 20-20. 

You can, however, get solar powered, remote controlled curtain lights on Amazon: Upgraded Solar Curtain Lights. I think I'll go with those next time just for the convenience (no batteries needed and remote control for off/on times).   

My other new favorite patio light is this 200-count solar fairy string light strand from Wal-Mart. I bought two packages and wrapped them around two of the pergola's poles, on either end of the curtain lights. 

I'm loving the awesome, peaceful aura out on the patio at night (and it's been fairly mosquito-free thanks to the Dollar Tree incense sticks and coils as well as some citronella candles and a Thermacell Mosquito Repellant).

The last of my recent Dollar Tree summer finds are these little beauties -- wicker baskets! How cute is that?

And how summery? I use baskets year-round as decor but these struck me as especially cute for summer decorating. 

I purchased three of them and promptly filled them with seashells for a kitchen table display. 

They would look equally good on a coffee table or foyer table. And I can see them being filled with all kinds of things, depending on your preference -- maybe filled with keys and sunglasses by the door or jewelry on your dresser? The possibilities are endless. And baskets are timeless so I see them getting used well beyond the summer season.

I know that not all Dollar Tree stores carry the same merchandise at the same time. Even so, it's my hope that what you read about here in my Dollar Tree Treasures posts will inspire you to keep an eye out for similar items that you can use in your own home or as part of your own DIY decor projects.
