Who says fall decorating has to be all about pumpkins? Don't get me wrong. While pumpkins, both real and faux, are considered traditional fall decor accessories -- and I've certainly been known to use them over the years -- there are many other less traditional fall decor avenues to explore.
One of those avenues I've chosen to explore this year embraces more of a rustic luxe look, relying on a vintage pheasant whiskey decanter as the base for a sideboard centerpiece display. Coincidentally, pheasants seem to be very "in" this year, so my timing couldn't be better!

Have you ever purchased something at a thrift store or estate sale and
received questioning looks from the staff and/or your family?
Welcome to Thrifted vs Styled #149! Today's edition features the great white whale that I've been hunting down for years! And I found it not a moment too soon -- just in time to use as fall decor, which has been on my bucket list forever!
Here's a sneak peek of my fabulous find, out in the wild, at the thrift store where I purchased it. I paid $15, which is a lot for me to spend on thrifted finds. However, as already stated: My. Great. White. Whale. That alone made it worth the price.
Once home, I did my research on this gorgeous piece. The first thing that
came up was a listing on Etsy for $60. Granted, a listing price doesn't
always reflect the true market value of an item, but I think this one is
probably in the ballpark. It also says the pheasant decanter is from 1960.
I'll be doing more research on it when I get a chance.
PHEASANTS ARE REALLY IN RIGHT NOW!
Have you noticed that pheasants are really "in" right now? Pheasant wall art is everywhere. (See Resource List at the end of this post.) It gives off an equestrian, British country manor vibe which I love. Pheasant hunting, fox hunting, you name it -- both have always stirred up fall feelings for me.
Pheasants are just so, well, Ralph Lauren! Seriously, there are many Ralph
Lauren clothing and home decor lines (can you say pillows?) with pheasants
on them!
The equestrian community we live in continues to sponsor fox hunts every
fall -- don't worry, no foxes are injured; the riders and hounds
just follow a scent -- and I've always been enamored of that tradition.
You can read all about in
Ode To Fall in a Small Town.
I was able to incorporate many of my thrift store favorites into this fall sideboard vignette, including (among other things) the basket, the large, brown glass bottle and the small, white turkey tureen.
This gorgeous vintage buffet is a new addition to our dining room -- one with a great story that I'll be sharing with you soon! For now, doesn't it seem like the perfect base for the country manor fall display?
The pheasant plate on display is a Royal Stafford Woodland pattern.
I think the Royal Stafford Woodland pattern dinner plate is absolutely stunning. I
placed some purple and green silk artichokes in front of the plate. I also
scattered them all around the base of the basket tray. It's the first time
I've used the artichokes specifically as fall decor. I think the colors work
beautifully with the plate.
The dried flowers in the pitcher on the left are dried celosia, which I
grew from seed in my flower garden this summer.
It was luck of the draw that I got this deep, gorgeous dark fuchsia
color. Just perfect for fall arrangements! The faux brown transferware
pitcher is from Michael's -- 50% off.
I've finally gotten my quintessential pheasant fall display! And while you may not find a vintage ring necked pheasant decanter in your thrifting travels, you can always hang some vintage-inspired pheasant wall art instead, resource list below! (They even have pheasant pillows and pillow covers!)
