How To Use Peel and Stick Wallpaper Panels To Create Art

October 5, 2024

This peel and stick wallpaper project came about accidentally. Have you ever bought something without really knowing what you were going to do with it? I do it all the time! And doing that led me to this awesome, Asian-inspired wall art creation that I can't wait to share.

If you've followed my blog for any length of time you know that I am a total Dollar Tree addict. Why? Because I believe that home decor doesn't have to be expensive to match your taste and needs. Granted, I'm not advocating for buying Dollar Tree merchandise all willy-nilly. No, you have to have a discerning eye. Which I do. So sit back and follow along as I share my latest interior decorator-grade DIY!

On one of my usual weekly Dollar Tree runs I stumbled across some gorgeous wallpaper panels.

Not knowing what I was going to do with them, but knowing I loved them, I bought four panels.

It didn't take me long to figure out what I could do with at least one of them. And it involved a thrifted vintage frame I'd had for years but hadn't used in a long while. The frame contained a pretty panel that served as a form of cork board. In the past I used it as such. But I knew that the frame could handle art, so I decided to use it for the Asian-inspired bird wallpaper panel.

The intricate details on the vintage gold frame are fabulous.

First, after removing the tabs holding the panel in place, I popped the panel out of the frame.

Then I just lined up the wallpaper with the cork backing.

Then I flipped the whole thing over and drew a line on the back side of the wallpaper along where the panel ended.

Then I carefully cut along that line.

All that was left to do was pop the panel back into the frame with the wallpaper front and center. I didn't use the wallpaper's adhesive backing -- I just placed it on top of the panel. That way I can use the panel again for something else if I get bored with the art.

My DIY Asian-inspired bird art, in its thrifted vintage ornate gold frame, looks right at home on the shelf between two thrifted vintage ginger jars. Can you tell I'm a huge fan of thrifted, vintage finds? It's how I decorate my home, friends. How about you?
